COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A robust flavored ale with notes of spicy sweet pine from locally gathered spruce tips, balanced by roasty caramel malt and a hint of Chinook hops. About Vermont Spruce Tip Ale This hearty ale is a showcase for a traditional yet seldom used brewing ingredient: spruce tips. Harvested at their tender, ripe, bright green peak in Downer State Forest, Vermont, these spruce tips impart citrus, pine, spice, herbal and earthy notes. A host of malts, a hint of roasted barley and generous use of Chinook hops complement the unique spruce flavor.

Pours with a good amount of head, medium carbonation. On the nose, it’s boozy with a good amount of funk. There’s some hops in there but also with some faint fruit flavors. Color is medium brown, slightly red. On the tongue there’s some vanilla, cherry, wood flavor, slight alcohol burn. Light to medium body. Some Christmas spice in the background, but doesn’t come together all that great. Enjoyability 3/5.

Bottle; clear copper with medium yellow head; aroma- caramel, floral, light spruce; taste-medium sweetness, lightly bitter, light body, slick feel, average carbonation. Light on spruce and hops. Very drinkable.

Color was a wonderful red hue. Aroma is a mix of spruce and caramel malt. Taste is initially slightly sweet caramel malt, followed up by spruce and herbal hoppiness. Decently bitter.. the first few sips I enjoyed the novelty but it wore off: I ended up pouring out the last third (which was more because we had more beers to taste and time was short, rather than a bad beer.) I wouldn’t buy again, unless the mood was right: (think Christmas tree decorating day and a foot of snow outside).

Very sweet and malty flavor. Hops are very much overpowered by malt. This is a delicious beer to accompany desserts or to top off a few intense beers ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
