Very black pour. Medium white head. Porter like aroma. Toasty. Some charcoal. And a little bit of citrusy hop aroma. Flavor is very similar in profile. Toasty. Charcoal. Hop flavor comes through more. More earthy and spicy. Sweet finish.

(bottle - 22 oz) Dark brown pour with a tan head. Bitter and floral hoppy aroma with a lightly roasted note. Flavor is astringently bitter at the start with a very light chocolate middle and a peppery and spicy bitter hop finish. puboflyons (3467) - Allenstown, New Hampshire, USA - FEB 16, 2014
From a found 100 Barrel Series bottle dated 06/15/2012. Heady dark brown pour and the soapy tan head lingers and laces. Red hues. The nose emits a charm of dark roasted caramel malts, dark fruit, and black licorice with a more subdued earthy hop character. Medium body. Good barley malt taste with a lingering modest bitterness. I found this beer on a dusty shelf at an out of the way convenience store and I think they were simply pleased that someone bought this bottle. What I am trying to say is that the age and storage of this bottle may have impacted its overall character. Yet I still enjoyed it. catface5326 (154) - virginia beach, Virginia, USA - JAN 4, 2014

Very nice roasted palate with a rich semi-sweet maltiness and mild holiness.

On tap at Harpoon Brewery in Vt. Poured almost black with white head. Smooth taste with slight cocoa notes. Drinkable but I’m thinking 1 was enough. snoworsummer (5959) - baltimore, Maryland, USA - JUN 13, 2013
Bottle from a variety pack. Pours dark almost black/brown with a thin tan head. Smells like roasted malt, sweet caramel, and some pine. Taste is similar. Light roasted coffee, caramel, citrus and piney hoppy flavor. Light/medium body and low carbonation. Ed5388 (3488) - Forked River, New Jersey, USA - JUN 13, 2013

A good more seasionable take on the style. Some lemon citrus aromas. Medium bodied and bittersweet roasty malt flavor up front. Fades into some more bitter his and the finish is slight cocoa and bittersweet coffee again. Left with a light sweetness. Nickls (2576) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - APR 8, 2013
Bottle. Nearly black with a beige head. Spicy and earthy hops with dark chocolate in the aroma. Bitter, but mostly dark espresso and chocolate notes in the flavor. Lighter to medium body. Not terrible but not what I expect fromo the style.
