COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We worked with our friends at Equal Exchange to brew this English style Porter. Specialty malts provide caramel and dark chocolate notes and a sweet, smooth body, while coffee beans grown in the Mexican El Triunfo biosphere yield roasted, bittersweet notes that compliment the malty sweetness. The result is a balanced beer that showcases the flavors and aromas of both beer and coffee - a fitting equal exchange.

Pours a five-finger khaki head that takes a while to fade leaving a good lace. Totally black color, no highlights. Medium carbonation and heavy bodied. Chocolate/coffee nose. Flavor is roasted coffee, some chocolate, dry finish. $7.20 for a 22oz bottle from a Tullys Beer & Wine Wells, ME.

Black with a thin tan head. Aroma is a big whiff of black coffee with maybe a slight hint of chocolate. Flavor is almost like an iced mocha or coffee ice cream. Tasty, especially if you like big coffee flavor with a sweet aftertaste. Body isnt bad, maybe a touch thin. Pretty solid, could be a bit over balanced on the coffee end, but that should be expected with the name. Otherwise, I could really only complain about it being a bit one note, but its not a bad note at all.

They are not lying about the coffee in this one. Looks like coffee with a tan head. Big coffee aroma and taste, along with some chocolate. Nice bittersweet balance.

22 ounce bottle - $5.99 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: A medium-small, tan head sits atop a black body. Near nil lacing.

Smell: Features a sublime scent of whole roasted coffee beans. Many stouts and porters can give off a roasty, coffee-esque scent, its true. Even many coffee-infused beers dont seem particularly emboldened beyond the base malts. In this, however, the added ingredient is undoubted. Also, quality chocolate, caramel, vanilla, and a faint, faint fruitiness.

Taste: Theres a great bittersweet coffee bean flavor upfront accented by roasted malts, chocolate, caramel and burnt sugars. Very light touch of licorice. Low dark fruitiness. Bitterness from the hops, but also some imparted by the roasted malt and coffee beans. Plenty of coffee flavor on the finish and in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Smooth, yet also a bit crisp.

Overall: A tantalizing and energizing beer. Ive had a few coffee-based beers lately and this has been the best of the bunch.

Bomber: Pours a clear ruby with a medium off-white head, big chocolate aroma, starts and ends lightly sweet with a coca ending, medium bodied with ample carbonation.

UPDATED: DEC 23, 2012 Poured thinner than expected with a small light brown head that diminished into nothing. Dark brown body. Decent coffe aroma and taste, left with a burnt coffee bitterness, not necessarily the pleasant kind. Weaker than expected mouthfeel with a bit of fizzy carbonation.

A great coffee and hints of bitter roast malt aroma. A mixture of some milkiness and some rough carbonation. That roughness detracts slightly from its drinkability. The flavour is really spot on though it is a touch too bitter.

Draft at lucky lab. Pours black with red edges and a small off white head. The aroma Is big chocolate, some expresso, roasted. The taste is medium bitter coffee and lightly sweet mocha on the finish. Decent but not the top of the style.

another offering from the 100 barrel series. brownish head on a black beer. Aroma is just like an chocolate covered espresso bean. rich malty and more sweet than bitter but with a milky coffee finish. Could use with a fuller body but still great balance of brews.
