Bottle. Pours very dark ruby with a medium brown head. Aroma is very chocolatey, some vanilla, quite sweet. Flavor is more complex, fairly bitter, lots of malt, some coffee. Creamy palate, but not overly heavy. I’m usually not big on chocolate stouts when they draw much of their taste from the addition of actual chocolate. But this is well integrated and tasty. Pretty nice semi-sweet chocolate chip aroma, with slight black olive tones when it’s colder. Mediocre label, almost opaque black-brown beer with a filmy head. Roasted, toasted, bitter chocolate flavor with pencil shavings. Moderately tangy. A dry coffee finish. Medium body. Not bad at all, but not very distinct. ABC Liquors, mixpack. adrian910ss (2575) - Doylestown, PA, USA - FEB 7, 2011
12 oz bottle. Pours a very dark cola with a medium sized foamy tan-light brown head. Aroma of tootsie rolls, baking chocolate and rich malt. Taste of dark baking chocolate, tootsie rolls and malt. Volgon (2763) - Manchester, New Hampshire, USA - JAN 31, 2011
Bottle: Pours the darkest of ruby with a thin tan head, aroma has chocolate, starts and ends lightly bitter with cocoa in the ending, strong carbonation, full bodied and slick mouthfeel. BREWMUSKCLES (2687) - New Jersey, USA - JAN 17, 2011
a brew with a cocoa type flavor and a decidedly butterscotch type flavor as well. beery enough with some hop and malt. a bisuity chocolate type flavor that comes from chocolate type flavorings that are added. cocoa powder...decidedly suspicious in the flavorings. contrived and enhanced. some lemon pith.

Pours from the 12 oz. bottle a dark, dark brown with a foamy 1 finger tan head that quickly dissipates into a thick collar. Fairly active carbonation...I can see quite a few bubbles breaking on the surface, can’t see a thing through the almost pitch blackness of the glass. There is a deep, rich aroma of both chocolate and coffee!Smells like something you would order from your favorite coffee place. 1st sip brings a mild taste of roasted malt, dark unsweetened chocolate, and black coffee. The taste is much less intense than the aroma, which is a bit of a disappointment. Mouthfeel is bright and has a nice sparkle to it from the carbonation. Drinkability is good, but not exactly off the charts. I could sip on one or two on a cold January night. Overall, a good, but not quite great beer. I wouldn’t turn it down, but if the flavor matched the aroma, this would be something quite special. GT (10000) - San Diego, California, USA - JAN 15, 2011
355mL. Pours a deep brown to near black with a fizzy, temporary mocha head that looks rich and rocky but is short-lived. No lace. Aroma is milk chocolate, chocolate covered maraschino cherries, cheap anniversary chocolate box. Taste makes it immediately evident that Harpoon does not really brew beer as much as they make flavored water. There is zero mouthfeel- mostly mineral water, Perrier. The taste is almost an afterthought, as if this was chocolate coffee vanilla flavored vitamin water. The aftertaste in mineral forward with lemon tartness coming back. I mean even a style that near impossible to ruin, Harpoon has accomplished this with flying colors. michael-pollack (4959) - King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 9, 2011
12oz. Bottle: Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, light lactose, and some cream. Poured very dark brown in color with a medium-sized, creamy, dense, brown head that diminished but lasted throughout as a film on top of the beer, as well as around the edges. Clear. Slightly to lightly sparkling. Flavor is light to medium sweet and light to medium bitter. Tastes of roasted malt, chocolate, and some lactose. Medium body. Average texture. Average carbonation. Chocolate and roasted malt finish. Byrdman (41) - Maryland, USA - JAN 8, 2011
Head is wimpy, roast on the nose. Lots of vanilla for me, coffee on the finish. reggiedunlop (3725) - The dub c, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 7, 2011
pours black with a medium sized mocha head that dissipates quickly but returns with agitation. aroma is very chocolatey...dark chocolate...with nice roastiness. flavor follows suit and also has some coffee and dark roasty malts. mouthfeel is very lively and thick with a dry very roasty finish that lacks the up front chocolate and linger pleasantly.
