Hey, I could make this! I have to take that into consideration when I rate this IPA. The hops aroma is nice, with a nice floral bitterness emanating from the golden body. The watery body, though, is just weak. Flavor is perfumey and slightly bitter, balanced by the slightest hint of malts. More of a session-oriented version of the IPA, and, considering the description that this was once a "summer seasonal," that shouldn't surprise me.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Clear amber, medium head. Malty aroma with hops presence. A decent IPA, although not as heavily hopped as the trend has been going. Drinkable with good balance and a palatable aftertaste.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Yellow body with a thick white head. Some lacing.
Malty, floral aroma. Weird, dough smell in there too.
Malt is very evident. Alcohol and some hops. But the hop bite that's there seems to be that of a pilsner almost. Very weird beer. More of the American hops become evident as the beer warms.
Smooth, full body.

I would say this one reminds me more of the earlier IPAs and Pale Ales from the East Coast that emulated the traditional English style. My experience with this was woodiness up front followed by a strong sweetness finishing hoppy. Pretty good, actually.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: DEC 24, 2007 Harpoon is not in the race with others to add more and more hops to ridiculous and unpleasant levels. This beer fits the IPA style but with hopping at the lower end of what is available in the US. The balance of malt, bitterness and hop aroma is excellent and although this one tends to get lost among hoppier IPAs, its balanced flavors make it a winner.

Not enough hop nose for an IPA. Good lacing. Mouthfeel is light and crisp. A good decent beer.

Holy frickin' pine forest aroma!! geez! i think Harpoon must make those pine tree shaped car air fresheners. that's the only explination i have for the BIG PINE SCENT. kinda hoppy but not hugely interesting.

A very complex Hop character. Kinda bites you in the mouth if you aren't careful. Used to be among my favorites, but my tollerance for sticky aftertasting beers has faded over the years. They leave me cottonmouth.

Tap. A very crisp IPA. It's not particularly unique and so while it ain't going to score in the 4-range, I can see how its nice hoppy bite and smooth, clean finish make it a popular beer. Kind of like Pilsner Urquell? I like this, it's like "good beer for the masses"
