On tap at Legal Seafoods in Boston. Pours a tanslucent golden with a lighter amber highlights and a small off white lacing head. Aroma of sweet caramel and toasted malts. Some lighter citrus from the hops. Flavor of an up front but not over powering hop flavor and light pine. Malts are also up front with a toasted sweet caramel. A bit thin and would like more hop flavor in my IPA’s. mreeves (276) - Sammamish, Washington, USA - APR 20, 2007
A very mediocre, uninteresting IPA. Seems to be available all over Boston, and at least it’s a much better beer than most others available around town. Very light color for an IPA, white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Too light on the hops for my taste, and just nothing to get excited about here. Yellowish cooper color with a small white head. Floral hop aroma. Bitter malty, yes, grapefruit flavor. holdenn (2116) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 6, 2007
12 oz bottle bought at a liquor store in Middleton CT. This was in the cooler but the cooler was turned off. After the manager asked me a few questions about my id i was actually able to purchase this. Pours a clear yellow with a white head. Nose s of old hops carmel, citrus, floral. The grains are coming out a little in the flavors here. Otherwise floral lemon grapefruit citrus old faded hops. Hmm. This is losing a lot because of freshness. All IPA’s are best on tap and fresh. This one isn’t. You lose, but I won’t be terribly harsh. Acknud (1081) - Morganfield, Kentucky, USA - AUG 11, 2007
Good color with a foamy small head. Taste of slight citrus. Fairly watery though. A little light on the hops.

Draught. Pours a gold colour with a small white head. Aroma of citrus hops, earthy and hints of malts. Initial taste is not as hoppy from what was expected, the hops were almost nuetral in the background while hints of malts lingered in. Body was thin and watery and the palate was short. No head retention. It was a good stab by harpoon. TampaBeer (257) - Tampa, Florida, USA - SEP 13, 2007
Slightly enjoyable aroma, average flavor, and nothing much special. Having said that, I love this refreshing beer and it is a wonderful everyday drinker. Nice dry flavor and finish and a light hint of that sour ipa flavor. bryandhargrave (165) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - SEP 17, 2007
In the tradition of India Pale Ale’s(IPA’s), this copper colored ale is floral, medium bodied, with a distinct hop finish. Originally our summer seasonal in 1993, it is now available year-round. Harpoon IPA was ranked atop both domestic and imported IPA’s by Beer Connoisseur Magazine. jredmond (8285) - New York, New York, USA - OCT 15, 2007
UPDATED: JUL 5, 2016 12 oz bottle. Pours an orange body with short, white head. Aroma of soft citrus hops and soap. Taste is citric hops as well. A one-note, bland IPA that’s neither memorable nor offensive. hoppopotamus (260) - Santa Cruz, California, USA - JAN 24, 2008
Clear, golden beer with a small white head. Sweet, fruity and floral hops flavor, almost bubblegum-like. The taste is a bit thin, not bitter enough for an IPA, some malt flavor. Unremarkable IPA, any store that sells it probably sells better.
