COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The latest installment of the Harpoon Leviathan Series was brewed in the centuries-old tradition of Czech and Bohemian brewers. Harpoon Big Bohemian is a large lager with a clean maltiness and a huge aromatic hop character. Continental Pilsner, pale two-row, and Carafoam malt was used to brew this big, strong beer, true to the Leviathan Series. Pilsner malt is the classic ingredient of this classic style and the Carafoam malt produces a nice, frothy head. This malt mixture combined with Czech Saaz hops, the quintessential hop of the style, yields an assertive but not overly aggressive beer. The finish is dry with a lingering floral hop character.

12 oz bottle. Pours a nice clear light golden- massive sticky whit head and nice lace. Aroma is packed with tons of spicy and floral czech hops with a nice doughy malt backbone. Flavor is also zest, spicy and almsot resinous from the amount of hops- sap-like, with a slight crackery doughy pils malt, fresh bread, and a touch honey-like since it is so big. Spicy hop finish and pretty smooth fro a 9% impy pils. This is pretty solid stuff.

Reviewed from notes. Thanks to Drew and Jen for the bottle. Served in a tulip glass. Pours golden with a white head and a bit of lacing as the beer goes down. The nose is lightly hoppy with a floral character. A lot of malty grain and a bit of bread. The taste is malty, bready, and a bit spicy with a bit of booze. Feel is pretty crisp with nice carbonation. A good beer, but a bit too much. Serving type: bottle Reviewed on: 11-13-2010

Bottle. Gold with a thin head. Quiet soft hoppy nose. Big pepper taste, followed by BBQ?, then booze. This is a confused boozy beer. Hard to Imperialize such a delicate style.

Tap at Capones. Pours a lightly hazy golden yellow with a large foamy white head. Aroma of spicy hop notes, sweet cereal grains, light lemon, earthy and herbal. Flavor of ripe banana, Cheerios, light citrus and some spicy hop notes. Too much banana for a lager let alone a Pilsner.

UPDATED: MAR 2, 2013 A: Golden yellow body. Thin cap with moderate lacing. S: Bright floral hops dominate. Slightly grainy. Faint bready malts. T: Disappointing after the promising nose. The floral hops were overwhelmed by the bready malts which rapidly escalated in prominence. M: Slightly chewy. Nicely carbonated. Clean finish. O: The bready characteristics impaired my overall enjoyment. Perhaps going for 9% was a bit too ambitious on the part of the brewers. (review from 2009)

Dull golden semi-hazy yellow pour with ring of offwhite head is not. Sweet floral hop profile is a little fruity almost. Somewhat spicy and buttercream. Soft malt character. Decent for the style I suppose, but nothing stellar. Spicy finish.

Bottle at PPRBSG09. Pours a clear yellow with a small white head. Aroma of sweet fruit, citrus, and acetone. Flavor is very sweet with tart lemon and alcohol. A bit on the strong side, but otherwise ok. 6/4/7/3/13 (3.3/5)
