COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named after the ancient god of darkness, Leviathan Czernobog is a tribute to the hardy stouts originally brewed in England for shipment to the frigid Baltic. With notes of unsweetened chocolate, molasses, and dark fruit, this Russian Imperial Stout will withstand the darked of winters.

12 oz. bottle that I purchased @ Nikki’s Liquors, Providence, R.I. for $2.99. Vintage is 2012. Quickly dissipating tan head that died to nothing. Aroma is roasted malts, dark fruit and light vanilla. Tastes of decent amounts of roasted chocolate malts producing notes of coffee and raisins. Secondary flavors of light smokiness or burnt wood and light vanilla. Texture is on the oily side with a slick texture. ABV is masked after it’s cellared a bit like this bottle. For the price I paid for a bottle or what you will find for a 4 pack; it really is worth a try. Not going to blow your mind with flavor for the style, yet it still is a well-made imperial stout.

12oz bottle shared by blankboy. black and oily, smallish light brown creamy head. Somewhat sweet deep roast aroma, alcohol, a bit of table cream, mint and herbal bitterness. Taste follows, a touch hot, nicely balanced though. Slick, low carbonation, quick oily alcoholic finish. Good.

2012 Bottle: Pours oil-black with a small, dark head. Aroma is sweet cherry wood smoke, raw chocolate. Flavour is very dark chocolate, thick...raisin..vanilla bean. Tingly carbonation....a whisper of smoke and pepper. Rich and smooth. Excellent.

This poured a darker brown color with a lighter tan head. Aroma was of licorice, smoke, and dark burnt chocolate. Flavor was much the same, nicely smokey and a bit ashey, but not too offensive. Alcohol is hidden well too. Nice offering by Harpoon.

Bomber from Joe Canals Fire Rd. Poured a sort of unimpressive super dark brown with a foamy mocha head. Aroma of sweet chocolate, dark fruits, nuts, marshmallows, amd dark cherry juice. Smooth body, with softer carbonation, decent heat. Flavor is similar to the aroma, dry dark chocolate, cbocolate syrup, burnt malts, burnt toast, ash dark fruits. Solid beer but sort of sweet for an Impy.

Tap thanks to beerandblues2. Pours opaque black with average, frothy tan head; decent retention and spare lacing. Aroma is chocolate, vanilla, dark fruit, roast malt, light woody notes and faint earthy hops. Flavor is roast malt forward with chocolate, coffee, earthy hops, dark fruit esters and light vanilla; dry finish. Medium body and low carbonation.

Sample glass at Two Brothers Tavern, Middlebury, VT. This was poured into one of those pilsener looking sample glasses (yes, so take with grain of salt to an extent), here’s the rest. The appearance was a black color with a thin glaze of a cap of a tan head. Quickly dissipated, no lacing. The smell had a good amount of milk chocolate, dark chocolate, black licorice, roasty coffee beans, and a delicate amount of dark fruits. The taste was mainly sweet through the previously mentioned flavors. Roasty tones make a decent effort and slide through the dark fruits to blend into the aftertaste, decent. Semi-sticky fruity to licorice finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionability about it. Weird that a 10%-er has a slightly crushable feel to it and its on tap, hmm...leaves me wondering. Overall, well, its not a bad RIS, just comes across a bit lighter than expected. Good aroma and flavor, could come back to it for that.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha conglomerate head froths and recedes leaving spider lacing. Dark chocolate and pit fruit aromas. Thin with smoky chocolate upfront turning to caramel and pit fruit before the lasting hot espresso finish.

Comes out of the tap a rich, dark coffee brown with a fine-bubbled tan head that leaves generous lacing. Hearty aroma has strong chocolate, caramel and roast malt notes plus hints of caramel and fruit. Robust flavor has a core of roast malt and coffee, chocolate, earthy, woody hop and caramel notes of varying strength. Each sip seems just a little different. It is slightly sweet, but not too much. Texture seems just a teensy thin for an Imperial Stout, but otherwise quite firm and fizzy. Darkness visible, and very tasty!

(750 ml.
