Comes out of the tap a rich, dark coffee brown with a fine-bubbled tan head that leaves generous lacing. Hearty aroma has strong chocolate, caramel and roast malt notes plus hints of caramel and fruit. Robust flavor has a core of roast malt and coffee, chocolate, earthy, woody hop and caramel notes of varying strength. Each sip seems just a little different. It is slightly sweet, but not too much. Texture seems just a teensy thin for an Imperial Stout, but otherwise quite firm and fizzy. Darkness visible, and very tasty! SuperTiti33 (891) - Aylmer, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 18, 2014
Noire. Beau collet moka. Nez: Café. Chocolat. Mélasse. Fruit séché, datte, raisin. Bouche: Riche. Anis. Très sucré. Café espresso. Chocolat noir. Belle amertume tenace. Très bien équilibré. Excellente. nwiseman (202) - Norwich, Connecticut, USA - APR 19, 2016
Boozy coffee aroma. Tastes of cocoa, molasses, and dark fruit. Smooth mouthfeel, but not flat. This beer has just about everything I look for in the style. 1st beer I’ve rated in a while though, so my ratings may be skewing a bit high. MacBoost (1898) - Victor, New York, USA - FEB 1, 2013
Purs a muddy black with almost no head. Aromas of bitter chocolate, coffee grinds, cacao. Some light marshmallow and perhaps a touch of dark fruit going on as well. Taste is similar; black cock, coffee, roast, harsh chocolate, prison sex. Pretty damn good. Finishes dry. Patrickctenchi (6591) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - APR 7, 2013
Pours oil-black with a small, dark head.

Flavour is very dark chocolate, thick...raisin..vanilla bean.
Tingly carbonation....a whisper of smoke and pepper.

On tap at House of 1000. Smoky with coffee, soy sauce, molasses, and chocolate. Light alcohol sweetness. Mild vanilla. Dark black opaque with thin cocoa head. Medium chewy body with medium carbonation. Starts rich and malty with chocolate and molasses, coffee, and a bit of smoke. Mild alcohol warming. Big chocolate-molasses finish with nutty sweet and bitter after. warhawk91 (302) - Newington, Connecticut, USA - JUL 24, 2013
12 oz. bottle. Jet black with a beautiful tab head and minimal lacing, thick like motor oil. Smell is roasted malts, molasses, baker’s chocolate, alcohol and coffee. Taste is incredibly balanced, chocolate, roastiness, a touch of hop bitterness and a bit if alcohol burn. Really good imperial stout. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone tekstr1der (490) - New Hampshire, USA - NOV 26, 2015
Quite black pour with very little brown head. Aroma is mostly roast malt with a faint smokiness. Flavors are of cocoa with a mild sweetness, very roasty, and slight hint of ripe fruit. Very balanced and clean finish make this super drinkable for the style. Alcohol is well-hidden. drsordr (2662) - Loveland, Ohio, USA - FEB 28, 2013
Bottle pour opaque black with thin head. Nose of chocolate, coffee, cherry, and dark fruit. Taste of bitter chocolate, fruit and hint of candied sugar. Palate a little thinner than desired but otherwise nice complexity BroSpud (2189) - , Massachusetts, USA - JAN 17, 2015
22oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a tan head. Nice flavors of dark fruits, chocolate, molasses and licorice. Despite the high abv there is very little alcohol taste or burn. Overall an easy drinking impy that I thoroughly enjoyed.
