A delicious IIPA. Aroma was nice and big. Strong hops with not much else able to break through (which is fine with me). Pour was a nice thick dark orange with a thin white ring for a head. Taste was nice and strong. Strong hoppiness with a hot alcohol burn and a burnt caramel and bitter aftertaste. The hop profile here is heavy grapefruit...not just citrus but grapefruit. Decent carbonation carries the flavor through. This beer doesn’t try to hide the alcohol. It flaunts it. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - MAR 14, 2009
(12oz bottle, thanks SamGamgee) Medium off-white head atop crystal clear applpe juice body. Aroma is moderately sweet, cartty/pineapple, some bread/caramel. Taste is moderately sweet, carry, some grapefruit, caramel. Medium body, some chewiness. CaptainCougar (7133) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - MAR 13, 2009
Bottle shared by SamGamgee: Pours a transparent deep golden with a spotty-lacing wispy white head. Aroma of piny resiny hops with a light caramel sweetness and peppery alcohol. Body starts with a nice fullness and sweet caramel malty balance with a clean citrusy flavor hop presence and a crisp, bittersweet finish. Hides its alcohol very well and is very drinkable. notalush (5883) - Lakewood, Colorado, USA - MAR 12, 2009
Pours a lightly hazy orange - potent, piney hops greet the nose, with some biscuity maltiness underneath, grapefruit peel, and light honey - a really nice balance of american hop onslaught and moderate malt sweetness - a lot of tangy citrus fruit flavors through the middle - the sweetness gets a bit stronger in the finish, perhaps a little too much so, but this is a minor flaw - very well-masked alcohol - another solid brew in this series. Bottle. Pours a hazy orange/amber with a small off-white head. Aroma is hoppy and floral with citrus, pine, fruit and a hint of grapefruit. Flavor is very hoppy with light caramel, pine resin, citrus, and notes of alcohol with a medium body and a bitter finish.

12oz bottle that says 009 on it, but I’m not sure what that means... Slightly amber tinted orange color, clear, with a medium sized white head that leaves light patchy lace. Medium intensity hoppy aroma. Grapefruit, orange and pine aspects to it, with a good hit of alcohol. The flavor has some sweet, sticky pale malt under candid grapefruit leading to a quite bitter grapefruit finish that is accentuated by some alcohol burn. Plenty of body; on the syrupy side, and lightly astringent. This reminds me a lot of Hollister’s Hip Hop, though I’m sure only a couple people know what I’m talking about. Leviathan is less mannered though. I like that they weren’t afraid to properly balance the malt with bittering hops, unlike many east-coast brewers, but the end product is still a bit harsh in its alcohol presence and abrasive bitterness. barncatmatt (2286) - Cambridge, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 7, 2009
growler shared with the KW crew. thanks for the share Jeff! the pour was shimmering clear golden with a tight white head. the aroma was hops. the flavour was hops. this was resiny hop madness. i enjoyed it but its an over the top hop bomb! thanks for the share jef!! Growler shared by Tupalev at our 2nd KW group tasting, thanks Jeff! Pours a very nice, lively golden orange with a small white cap. The aroma is entirely hops, hops, hops, BIG time, just a subtle hint of honey underneath, certainly no big malt body to speak of. Flavour is very much the same, quite powerful, boozy, thick syrupy hop juice. A tiny touch of sweet malts but not at all a balancing agent like they claim it to be. I can’t get over just how hoppy this one is, it almost hurts to drink with the strong boozy edge added, but it’s still quite tasty. All American hops, no backbone, but still pretty good. Thanks Jeff! Bottle from Binny’s South Loop. Pours a nice gold color with a nice head. Nose is very pungent, citrusy and resinous, a little dank. Taste is bold and brash, very in your face. Super hoppy and bitter, but never making you hate it. Nice and fruity with the resiny notes. Finishes dry and clean. Damn fine stuff.
