Formerly known as Harpoon Leviathan Imperial IPA.

We welcomed the challenge of brewing a 90 IBU Imperial IPA that would showcase glorious American hops while maintaining a multi-dimensional character. Bring on the hops!

This Imperial IPA is brewed with loads of pale malt and just enough caramel malt to provide a sweet malt backbone to balance the hop intensity. We used a mix of our favorite American hops including Chinook, Centennial, Simcoe, and Amarillo to create a complex hop flavor and lingering bitterness. Harpoon’s proprietary yeast lends fruity esters, while dry-hopping at the rate of over one pound per barrel produces this beer’s massive aroma.

From a 12oz. Definitely has the character of an Imperial IPA, but not quite as big as others in the style, or even other styles. Good mid-palate but finish too strong. A little disappointing.

A very bitter beer without the complexity of many IPAs. Brings a heavy booze profile, but forgets the nuance that makes a good IPA tick. Not my favorite, though I like Harpoon generally.

12 oz. aged bottle. Poured cloudy orange with fine sediment in suspension. Big caramel malt, pine resin. Too old to appreciate.

Bottle. Pours a nearly clear amber color with a white head and a good amount of lacing. Aroma is mango and tropical fruits, with pine and citrus and floral hop qualities as well. The flavor is rather sweet, very malty, similar to the aroma. Aftertaste leaves a pleasant bitterness.

Amber/copper color with small off white head. Floral hops and malty aroma. Medium body, some carbonation and a little alcohol. Flavor is sweet up front, pretty malty, orange hops, off dry finish. Pretty good, balanced, not that complex.

Thechasm442 (1006) - Denver, Colorado, USA - AUG 21, 2016
Bottle. Mostly clear copper with a thin white head and average lacing. Aroma is mostly tropical with floral hops, pine, and caramel. Taste is hop forward with tropical and pine. Caramel rounds it out. A bit Thicker and sticky.

12 oz bottle. Clear amber, tight tan head, nice lace. aroma is caramel malt, citrus, pine, resin, earth. Flavor is sweet caramel malt, backed by pine, citrus and earth. Flavor is malty up front, with caramel, and toast, and then the hops creep in. Orange, grapefruit, pine, resin. Finish is long and citrusy bitter.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. The appearance is a cloudy dark gold color with a medium sized white head. The aroma is full of hops and pine. The taste is a close match to the aroma. A really good IPA.

Citrusy aroma. Dark orange and amber color, with very little head or lacing poured into a pint glass from a bottle. Bright citrusy taste comma with sweet notes. No bitter aftertaste and a very clean pallet. For an IPA, this is quite good.

Seannpc (160) - - MAR 11, 2016
Clean aroma with citrus overtones. Golden color with no cloudiness. Malty start and slightly bitter finish ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
