The original German Oktoberfest was brewed with one celebratory festival in mind. Harpoon Octoberfest is brewed with TWO festivals in mind; our Octoberfests at our breweries in Boston, MA and Windsor, VT. We love the style and it’s a great beer for the fall season. In true Octoberfest tradition, we threw our first festival here at the brewery in 1990. There were a couple thousand people here celebrating amidst the brewing tanks. We can’t quite fit everyone in the actual brewery now – last year nearly 18,000 revelers attended our Boston Octoberfest and nearly 7,000 joined us at our brewery in Vermont the following weekend. Prost!

Harpoon Octoberfest is a malty tribute to fall, balanced by a gentle hop bitterness. In keeping with tradition, it is a Marzen-style beer, brewed with abundant quantities of Munich, Chocolate, and Pale malts. Those malts provide a solid, full body and create the beer’s deep color. It is a rich, flavorful beer.

Poured a clear amber with a smallish head. Semi-sweet malts and no bitterness. A vedry average beer at best.

12 oz. bottle from hayduke that we had together via facebook chat. Clear and coppery with some being head. Nice lacing falls down the glass. Aroma is malty and a bit earthy. Flavor is floral with gentle fruit. Caramel malts. No Fall spices noted. A bit of soap and zest. Pretty good for what it is.

Shared with Strykzone on Facebook Chat. Poured red copper with a beige head. Nose of caramel malts. Medium body. Flavor is very malty with no sign off hops Finishes almost sweet. Drinks OK however and is a decent enough beer

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2017 Klar lys brun med lavt hvitt skum. Lukter honningmelon, mango og lett tigerbalsam. Middels fylde. Smaker også melon, søtlig og noe pepperig ingefær.

12oz bottle at home. Clear golden amber with an off-white head. Caramel, bread, pale malt, toffee, biscuit, mild hops. Medium carbonation. Light body with a malty finish. Good marzen.

Pours a clear copper with a frothy white head. Nose is a little caramel and European hops with a touch of clove. Flavor is sweet at first but quickly dissapates to a sticky but bland finish. Very light bodied. Very typical marzen.

From old tasting notes. Deep orange red color. Bubbly beige head. Sweet toasted malt nose. Flavor follows nose with toffeeish notes. Herbal hop finish is subdued as not to mask the big malty character you’d expect for a Marzenbier.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass at the World of Beer in Savannah, Georgia. The appearance is a rusty gold color with a large off-white head. the aroma is malt and some hops. The taste is malt driven with some hops. An average beer.

(bottle) My last for season. This is a decent domestic with more hops than the traditional. There is an updated blue label on the bottle, different than pictured above.

Draft pour. The beer is a clear copper with a beige head of fluffy foam. Aroma is doughy, crisp spice. Some sweet, caramel notes poke through occasionally. Moderately sweet with a quick, dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Fairly solid Oktoberfest.

Bottle at a kid’s birthday party. Malty sweetness and some grain/nutty flavor dominate -- this is clean and inoffensive.
