UPDATED: OCT 29, 2003 Wheaty citric aroma. Hazy golden body with almost no head. Malty wheat falvors . Nothing worth trying.

My first Hefeweizen, which means it was the first time I classified a Hefeweizen as tasting like a wet sock. With or without a lemon, this is not one of my favorites from Harpoon. I have grown to like wheat beers, and have brewed some myself, but there's just something about this Hefe that lacks. I think its just completely out of balance.

Head is initially large, frothy, white, mostly lasting. Body is hazy light yellow. Aroma is moderately malty (toasted grain), lightly hoppy (herbs), with a light note of lemon. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Most of the malt balance is in the form of bitterness rather than tartness, which is a little out of character...though not altogether distasteful. But the lack of character in this wheat makes it a snooze to drink.

Slightly hazy golden colour with a large-bubbled white head. Aroma of metal, wheat, a bit of citrus and a very tiny amount of cloves. Medium-bodied; Very carbonated mouthful, then coating the mouth with sweetness and spiceyness. Aftertaste shows some strong sweetness and then leaving the palate pretty dry. Overall, a bit better than I had expected with the low rankings...all-in-all not a bad American Wheat. I bought this twelve ounce bottle at Beers of the World in Rochester, New York.

Cloudy amber beer pours with a white head and shows good retention. The smell is yeasty with a hint of coriander and citrus. Not bad, but nothing special. The taste is very mild, with malt, bitter hops, and some yeast all noticeable. It is fairly well balanced, but doesn't impress. The mouthfeel is thin and watery and leaves you yearning for just a little more malt body. The drinakbility is again average, as the flavor isn't overly satisfying and neither is the mouthfeel.

Cloudy yellow with a thin white head and a subtle spicey nose. More of a Bavarian wheat than an American one if I had to choose. Some lemon citrus notes but not really a lot of much of anything. Easy to drink and refreshing, but not much to it.

Hazy yellow with a dimishing head but good lace. Banana, spice, cirus, yeasty aroma. The taste was very disappointing, watery and thin, mostly citrus with no signs of other hefeweizen characteristics. Pass in this one and get yourself a good German wheat.

Draught. Has a very cloudy beige yellow. Some bubble gum esters, little bit of citrus. Beer begins very plasticy with tons of bubble gum flavor. I am not tasting much wheat. Has a watery citrus mix towards the finish that is not very pleasant. The lemon they put in it did not help things. Hardly, if any, hops detectable. Beer seems artificially flavored. Problems with carbonation.
