This is not to be toyed with. Supposedly it’s 7.2%? I’m not quite calling bullshit on that but I reckon the hops are hallucinogenic or otherwise adding to the alcohol buzz. One time I sunk a whole lot of this I ended up waist deep in the Pacific Ocean off New Brighton. No idea how I got there. One nasty wave and I could have drowned. Had to walk all the way back to Linwood too. No cab will take you when you smell like fish. Then there was that other time I found myself shirtless in the forest having scrawled indecipherable runes on myself in felt tip pen, carrying a sack of pine cones. That was an awful yet deeply spiritual experience. Anyway kids, drink responsibly.

My favorite larger. A fantastic drink for the hot months, smooth and a little sweet. If you like wheat beer, try this.

330ml bottle Hazy pale straw with little head. Not much aroma. Mild bitterness followed by a sourness which lingers. Not great.

Very light gold in colour, with a thin head. Aroma is malty and lemony. Sweet, boozy taste, with pleasant malty finish.

Another poor effort from Harrington’s. The only differentiation from their other lagers is the higher alcohol, which is painfully obvious. Very bland.

It’s hard to be nice about a beer that is only and just about alcohol hidden by malt sweetness, and you can buy that for a bout 1/3 the price in cans from Germany if you wanted. This isn’t good, and I’m not even sue that the name of the beer isn’t a hat-tip to beer to get smashed by. Oh and the brewer just changed the style to "Strong Lager" say no more.

UPDATED: OCT 2, 2015 330ml botte, from the comments an interesting history, far more malty than hoppy & hides the alcohol well, not too bad

UPDATED: APR 12, 2015 Although it’s on the sweet side, and could do with more hops, it’s still a fair brew. It should be drunk well-chilled, though. Not the best effort of one of New Zealand’s better breweries. I liked the simplicity of their former label better than their latest.

330ml green bottle bought at Great Food Hall in Pacific Place, Admiralty during the ‘New Zealand food festival’ promotion.

Clear dull golden orange colour; Very thin head with residual soapy white foam which fades in 10 seconds; Good sticky lacing and active carbonation; Pungent and sweet smell of lager malt which can be smelt a foot away, plus raisin, sugar, hint of nuts, bread, dough, lemon and very strong raw grass; Strong sweet taste of light Pilsener malt, with pleasant light syrup, honey, light raisin, light flower petals, biscuits, light yeast, faint lemon, light bitter hops and thin grass; Mid to light body. Thin but slick palate; Mouth feel is initially like an Imperial Pils - Pilsener maltyness is kinda thin but has no adjunct at all, with full round sweetness of nice light syrup and a bit of honey. There is also some underlying nuttiness and light raisin taste, booze is well hidden, but overall it’s very lager-ish, still very much an Imperial Pils with some extra dimensions of a Bock. Also quite biscuity and very low hops. Pretty interesting and tasty!... Hoppiness is strong raw grass in nose, light lemon and light grass in taste. Bitterness is very low in background, very Bock-like for a nicely sweet-and-faint-bitter finish; Slightly dry after taste, quite sweet to mouth.

Comments: This is an interesting hybrid of Imperial Pilsener and Heller Bock. Very much a strong lager at heart, with that strong and raw grass aroma which may be mistaken as light skunk. The Bock-ish sweetness, hidden booze, light nuts and low hops makes it very intriguing and quite enjoyable. Definitely worth trying if you see one!

(Draught) Average strong lager. Colour darkish yellow. I did expect the alcohol in the taste but it is not apparent. However the taste is pretty sweet, warming in the end.
