Hartwall Chocolate Porter gets its soft flavor and full nose from the chocolatey aroma and carefully selected special malts. Like the precious Faberge eggs, this all-malt porter is brewed by hand from the best ingredients, and it deserves the Arthur Ludwig Hartwall's seal - a proof of the uncompromised quality of Hartwall's beers.

440ml can @ vPBF

Pours dark brown, almost black, with a bubbly white head. Metallic aroma with notes of berries, chocolate, some off-flavors. Taste is malty with notes of chocolate, hints of roastiness, berries and earthy notes. Finish has a lot of chocolate and hints of roastiness.

44 cl can @ vPBF as ”Hartwall 1836 Classic Chocolate Porter”, BBE 07/2008. Thanks Pat!
Aroma is stale with some milk chocolate and a slight metallic feeling of contamination. Flavour is slightly tart with some essence-like milk chocolate and metal. Dry finish. Quite the same as I remembered it from 2007. And to think that this can was 5 years old…

440 ml can @ vPBF 2012. BBE 07/2008.
Pours a dark brown colour with a white head. Aroma of milk chocolate, toasted malts and some nuts. Flavour of toasted malts, milk chocolate, some metallic notes and bready notes. Light bodied, thin mouthfeel and a smooth chocolate finish. A bit thin but still in a good condition.

Unbelievable. Hartwall has managed to make its first special beer which actually tastes good. The chocolate taste fits in perfectly.

Eher kurzer Abgang. Nett. Test vom 13.8.2008, Gebinde: Dose Noten: 11,11,11,12,11,11 - 11,15

Can 50cl. @ Chriso’s pre GBBF Shindig ’09. [ As Hartwall 1836 Classic Chocolate Porter ].
Clear dark brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, chocolate. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet with a average duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20090801]

50 cl Can as 1836 Classic Chocolate Porter @ pre-GBBF shindig, August 2009. Chestnut brown colour. Chocolate essence dominates throughout and in a very big way. Rather artificial tasting. Not much else really. As harrisoni says the body is too thin to cope with all the chocolate and there is not really anything else to provide any counterpoint. So it all seems rather unbalanced, but not unpleasant. Certainly not as nasty, or anonymous, as other Hartwall beers I’ve tried.

harrisoni (18578) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - OCT 4, 2009
Bottle at Chriso pre-GBBF tasting 09. Very choccy aroma. Too choccy, thin in mouth. Not got the body to carry the drinking choc flavour off.

cgarvieuk (24499) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - AUG 26, 2009
Bottle at Chris-o’s Pre GBBF tasting and 2009 ... deep brown ... same nose as the S. Tier Chocolate nose ie huge chocolate ... taste is nice chocolate but very artificial ... still huge chocolate ... and nice soft roast malts.
