From cask at Charlies Bar. Dark amber colour without a head. Aroma and flavour of malt, dried fruit, caramel, spice and a mild bitterness.

Pours clear deep copper with low off-white head. Aroma of caramel, light citrus, rye bread. Taste is alcohol bitter, slightly medicinal, with really no balance towards the finish. This is all out bitter. Body is medium full and creamy with soft carbonation.

UPDATED: DEC 23, 2016 Cask in the Royal Oak, Borough. Clear chestnut brown, with reddish tinges and an off white head. Nose has that fruity rhubarb tang which I only ever get from Harveys beers in the Royal Oak. Then stewed plums, menthol, caramel, barley sugar, cranberry red berry. Taste is dry hoppy, fruity, cranberry, stewed plums, spices, barley sugar, menthol from the hop. Trying to pick out the spice. Nutmeg, maybe orange and clove. Hop is giving some menthol. Ive got a residual cold so my palates not quite on form, which is a shame because this is in top condition. Rerate - had the 2016 version absolutely bang on form. Goes up from a 4 to a 4.2.

On Cask at the Royal Oak. Thick and spicy beginning. Lots of sweet malt, spices, round and intense. Not too sticky but fresh and round. The aftertaste is long, full-bodied spies, dried plums, apples, Clive. Great aroma and a great complexity! Fascinating!

On cask at the Royal Oak, pours a red amber with a tiny tan head. The smell is toasted malt and spice. The taste is spice, toasted malt, quite sweet and ending spicy and a bit dry. Medium in body with mild carbonation.

Aroma: intense caramel malt, molasses, bread, a touch of wood, slightly more than the bottle version. Appearance: clear, dark brown, very small, creamy, beige head. Taste: medium sweet. Palate: caramel malts, toffee, molasses, flat carbonation, great malts, a touch of dark fruits. Overall: OK Barley Wine, niche sweetness, lacks complexity. Pint at The Royal Oak, Borough.

Cask at WHOAF 2014, London. It pours a hazy copper color with a medium off-white head. Aroma is sweet with yeast, toffee and ripe fruits. Taste is sweet with notes of sweet cake yeast, candy sugar, molasses. Tasty overall

Cask at 32nd WHOAF. It pours jet black with a minimal head. The nose is rich, roasty, earth, umami, liquorice, black jacks, oily, dried fruits and garabaldi biscuits. The taste is big old fashioned liquorice vibe, booze, wood, earth, treacle, eccles cake, oily, umami, charry wood, tar and spice with a rich, warming finish. Full body, low carbonation and oily mouth-feel. Rich and complex. Big liquorice character to it. Crazy stuff, but tough going.

Cask at The White Horse, Parsons Green on 24 November 2012. Poured a murky, dark brown, with almost no head. Sweet nutty aroma, lots of malt and caramel. Strong dark fruity flavours, with peal, spice and chewy grain. Finish was toffee, cocoa and roasted malt.
