COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottled: 275ml and 500ml. Also available on draught throughout March.

Porter is brewed to Henry Harveys recipe of 1859, this beer is an authentic recreation of a Victorian Porter. Pale, crystal and black malts combine with a generous hop grist of Fuggles and Goldings to produce a full, rounded palate with roasted malts to the fore.

Appearance: Opaque black with ruby highlights. Thick tan head. Aroma: Roasty and light maltiness caramel and ovaltine. Flavour: Roasty and toffee, mildly sweet with a dry cocoa finish, Big roasty, malty, ovaltine hang. Burnt toast and light clean acidity fromn the roast. Mouthfeel: Light bodied, chewy and creamy carbonation. Overall: A refreshing dark beer. Lots of roast malt. Sweet at first but finishes dry and clean. LIght on the palate. It would be good with something salty - pretzels, nuts, yknow.

Bottle. Reddish black colour. Lots of lightly roasted malts (caramel, toffee, liquorice, some chocolate and coffee). Fruity (dark fruits). Port-like flavour. Sweetish leading to a dry roasty bitter hoppy finish. Very nice! (2008)

Bottle from the brewery in Lewes. Found this porter to be a little too bitter (prefer Harveys ales) although it did have some delicious hints of classic porter flavours at the back of the mouth.

(bottle) Clear, slightly ruby brown colour with a beige and medium-sized foamy head. Leafy dark malty aroma with notes of dark chocolate, leather and mocha. Mildly roasty bitter and delicately sweet flavour, light to medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Dry and slightly roasted malty taste with notes of bread crusts, dark chocolate, mocha and hints of licquorice towards the finish with a subtle dried fruity edge. 27.XI.16

0.5 l bottle from Rudat, best before August 2018. Clear, very dark red to black with a thin, frothy, almost stable, beige head. Faint, sweetish-malty, slightly roasty aroma of chocolate, caramel and some coffee. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty and minimally fruity taste of chocolate, coffee, licorice, caramel and some raisins, followed by a short, moderately roasty-bitter, a bit dry finish. Medium body, just slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Simple, classic, but tasty Porter.

Bottle: Deep chestnut-amber coloured, small and stable off-white foamy layer with a little lace; mild sweetish-bitter roasty nose with illusions of nuts and liquorice; mild to moderate bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied, very soft; drier toasty and a bit peaty finish with hints of liquorice. Very well drinkable stuff...

Dark with thin head, light in taste, sinks easily, would like this with a meaty pasta.

Thanks to erzengel! Pours clear brown with reddish highlights and a loose tan head. The smell is roasted dark malt, dark brown sugar, fruit, licorice. The taste is roasted malt, dark fruit, caramel...a bit thin as it ends dry. Light+ and a touch oily with very mild carbonation.
