275ml bottle from wine shop in Brighton. Bloody gorgeous. Black as hell - and deeply delicious. Soft as pillows, creamy stout with dark bitter notes. Splendid array of flavours. This is easy drinking beer, inviting, almost compelling, and ends too soon. I love this beer with a passion, and want to die drinking it. Erzengel (8724) - Wuppertal, GERMANY - AUG 16, 2014
Cask @ GBBF 2014. Malty intense nose. The beer stars very viscous. Great thick. Roasted/burned malt, dried dark fruit, plums, molasses. Included in the picture is a nice intense bitterness that fits in great! Very intense. The aftertaste is very long and viscous. Dark sugar, roasted/burned malt, very dry for this ABV. Plums, nice bitterness. A great round and extreme intense brew!

275ml bottle from The Sussex Produce Company, Steyning. Fermented aroma of yeast, malt, toffee and alcohol. Pours an oily black beer with a thin brown lacey head. Mouthfeel is thick and full of flavour. Sweet brown sugar, treacle, coffee, caramel, dark roasted malt, licorice, presence of alcohol masked to a degree by herbal bitterness. Long bitter sweet finish blends the complex flavour spectrum. Not to be rushed. berkshirejohn (6497) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - NOV 7, 2012
275ml bottle from an Offie in Hastings. Pours like used engine oil, a deep, shiny, luminous black colour with a ring of beige head; the aroma is full of sweet toffee coated nuts and earthy, sozzled, raisins; on taking a sip, the flavours explode in the mouth - tawny port, bitter chocolate, anchovies, moscavodo cherries, italian coffee - finally subsiding to a rich, chocolatey, licorice finish. An astounding beer. malushky (135) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - SEP 21, 2016
275 ml bottle for Harvey’s Brewery shop in Lewes. Pours black with fine, brown, lasting foam, which did not entirely disappear during my half an hour with this great beer. Aroma is sweet, pruns, liquorice and alcohol. Taste is very complex, it takes at least 5 seconds to go through all that is has to offer. Starts off sweet, liquorice and pruns, soy sauce kicks in in the middle and the finish is chocolate/coffee bitter. Full-bodied, oily, low carbonation, the taste lingers for a long time. Heavy to drink, but pure pleasure in the bottle. Hell yeah.

Pours utterly deep black. Extreme thick viscosity. Retention is almost absent and CO2 very low. Nose is rich and complex - dark chocolate, cofee, Brown sugar, vanilla, almonds. Taste is correspondence rich with a pronounced bitter and slight tart finish. Very nice beer harrisoni (18578) - Ashford, Kent, ENGLAND - OCT 4, 2008
Bottle at EBF 08. Lots of molasses and fig. Lots of christmas malty cake. That really is something special. Lovely deep malt, bit of spice and lovely warming finish. A really special beer with exceptional malts. Christian (13670) - Odense, DENMARK - OCT 1, 2009
Black with a lasting tan head. The aroma is rich and complex with licorice, molasses, spices, dried fruits, cocoa, plums and port. Sweet and fruity flavour, with licorice, burnt caramel, plums, dates and figs, and a slightly roasted finish. Really lovely, almost like a dark old ale. Gr0ve (2177) - Oslo, NORWAY - OCT 31, 2010
275 ml bottle. Pitch black. Soft buttery aroma with lots of cacao and a hint of licorice. Intense licorice and tar flavours. Caramel and dark burnt toffee. Smokey flavours. Licorice. Fairly low carbonation. Very nice complexity with a lot of flavours and a lot of components. Sweet malts. Rich oily texture. A really great beer. fiulijn (20492) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 30, 2013

2015-09-15, bottle from One Pint AS, bb Dec 2010 (6+ years old?), batch CIL, 7-4-8-4-15=38
Black color with excessive brown head, extra fermentation in the bottle. Roasty, pungent, lightly sour, some dark chocolate, some astringency, a lot of character. Not too old, still good.

Pitch black color with majestic brown head, compact and persistent. The aroma is very interesting, with roasted malts, dark chocolate and cacao nibs, light tobacco and vanilla, light sourness, very light phenols. Smooth mouthfeel, still quite round; very good flavor of roasted malts and dark chocolate, with a light touch of Christmas spices, some molasses, tobacco, very light sour touch; correct bitterness.

The botle is gushing a bit; black color. Sourish chocolate aroma. Smooth and rich chocolate flavor, with some light sourness; it has a vinous character.
