Ola Dubh (or Black Oil) is a collaboration between Harviestoun Brewery and Highland Park, Distiller of the Year*. It is based on Harviestouns award-winning Old Engine Oil. With more than a stylistic nod to the classic Imperial Porters (and Stouts) of the nineteenth century, this deliciously rich, dark, 8% a.b.v. beer is the first ale to be aged in malt whisky casks from a named distillery and, with traceable casks and numbered bottles, the rest with genuine provenance. Ola Dubh will initially be available in three different expressions; the initial release will be of small batches aged in casks formerly used to mature Highland Park 12 Year Old, Highland Park 16 Year Old and Highland Park 30 Year Old. Further variants are planned for the future. Ola Dubh is, in the words of beer afficionado Owen D.L. Barstow: The most interesting new British beer I have tried in years.

33cl bottle. Browish black pour. Thin body. Light roast but base beer is rather bland. The scotch is so smooth and makes this a nice treat but i dont think the beer holds up its end of the partnership. Good but not great..

Bottle. Black. Huge whiskey presence, whiskey malty, barrely, roasty too though, roasty, light ashy. Fullish bodied, light oily. Yeasty stress. Feels like an impy with manhandled yeast. Which has been thrown in a whiskey barrel. Feels messy unbalanced. Surprisingly easy though.

Aged 4 years in the bottle. Inky black hue with no head. Nice nose of woody dates and earthy malts with a sweet darkness about it. Big rich earthy dark flavor with cocoa and woody tones with gentle scotch note and light dates and dark fruits. Smooth whiskeyed non-boozy finish.

Bottle. Whisky aroma. Dark Brown-to-Black in colour. Very Malty; roast/burnt malts, chocolate, coffee, caramel, toffee, vanilla, oak. Whisky taste; smoky, peaty, salty, oily, tarry, iodine. Very Smoky. Fruity; vinous, dark fruits. Viscous. Warming alcohol. Sweet roast malty. Dry bitter roast finish. Lingering smoky aftertaste. More intense flavours than the 12 year old. Very tasty. Enjoyed this a lot. Very Nice Old Ale! (2009)

From a beerhawk mystery case. Pours deep black. Low carbonation. A lovely milk stout , so very nice for a change. Very smooth and velvety. Superb whisky undertones. Leaves you thinking that you have had a new CEO malt whisky. Brilliant. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Refrigerated 11.2 oz. brown bottle poured into a snifter. Black with small dark brown highlights and small beige head. Aroma is nice scotch, medium body, low carbonation, and a little lacing. Taste is dark chocolate, scotch, and some tobacco.

Wonderful aromas of dark chocolate, dark coffee, laktris, oak and whiskey. The flavor is similar but with more flavor of oak and whiskey. Exquisite bitterness that fills the mouth forever. Fabulous beer if you like whiskey and oak barrels. Follow me @ Kung av l @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

330 ml, flaske, 8.0 % ABV, BB: 02/2019, købt i Salt Horse Bottleshop i Edinburgh. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Flasche (33 cl) vom Bierzwerg. - Tiefes Schwarzbraun, fast schaumlos.
