COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ola Dubh (or "Black Oil") is so named because it is gloopy and viscous. This limited release has been matured in casks from Orkney’s award-winning Highland Park distillery to add complimentary whisky notes to what is already an amazing brew. It is chocolatey with a roasty, bittersweet aftertaste. Special Reserve 18, whisky notes: Highland Park 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky was named Best Spirit in the World by F. Paul Pacult; it offers toffee sweetness, almond nuttiness and a prolonged, smoky aftertaste.

Doghair's rating

3.9
   AROMA 8/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 8/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 17/20
Doghair (312) - Illinois, USA - DEC 10, 2012
Pours dark brown with minor foam. The aroma is sort if malty sherry. The taste is string roasted malt with an unusual scotch/sherry flavor. Not something I've had before and nothing like bourbon barrel aging. Very good and unique. Minimal carbonation. Overall an enjoyable beer. Kind of pricey but worth it. More beer please...

4.2
BenOver (322) - SLOVENIA - SEP 1, 2017
Pours pitch black, flat with almost no top. Whatever there is of the top it is beige to very dark white colour, oily look. Aroma is pronounced whiskey (slightly warm glass) some plumbs are also present and a hint of bread notes. Some coffee and roasted malts also there. Whiskey aroma overwhelms all other aromas. Taste is flat, slight sour first kick, evolving through a slight carbonated body to a light, yet dry finish. Texture is oily and dense. Aftertaste is alcoholic-dry. An exquisite expirience.

12oz bottle pours a dark brown color with a bit of head. Overpowered by the peatiness. Intense.

Good beer, Old Ale, but I expected more for that price and 18 Years old whiskey. I missed the aroma and tasty. I needed more "OLD" notes here, more to be complex. Aroma - raisins, choco, whiskey, bourbon... nice beer

Slight bitter sourness a la Guinness foreign extra stout but much better. Liquorice, dried raisins and dark chocolate. Nice but slightly thin for the strength

OminouSC2 (801) - Mora, SWEDEN - JUN 4, 2017
Dark brown color, small brown head. Aromas of peat, bitter dried fruits, wood, spices, cognac and caramel with slight tart hints. Taste of whisky, peat, tart dark fruits, wood, smoked meat, bitter honey and slight resin. Much more whisky flavors than its younger siblings.

UPDATED: MAY 25, 2017 Bottle 330 ml from an Amazon order. Aromas of coffee, caramel, smoke. Small brown-beige head and black body (amazing color if you hold it up against a light!). Sweet and smoky but very intense taste with coffee and salt caramel.
