COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ola Dubh (or "Black Oil") is so named because it is gloopy and viscous. This limited release has been matured in casks from Orkneys award-winning Highland Park distillery to add complimentary whisky notes to what is already an amazing brew. It is chocolatey with a roasty, bittersweet aftertaste. Special Reserve 18, whisky notes: Highland Park 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky was named Best Spirit in the World by F. Paul Pacult; it offers toffee sweetness, almond nuttiness and a prolonged, smoky aftertaste.

Pours somewhere between thick and watery with a tiny head, almost blackish. Aroma is light, but sweet and smoky. Taste is malty sweet and strong, with a nice whiskey side. Carbonation is light, but appropriate given the already strong taste.

330ml bottle from Melbourne Street Cellars pours deep black with very slow forming off-white head. Savoury aromas of wood, earth, smoke and dark berries. Caramel malt, whisky, smoke, charred wood, soy, leather and a hint of cherry sourness. Fantastic layering of flavours although the texturally a bit thin.

Incredibly delicious aroma of whiskey. Sagolik taste of coffee easily and light chocolate. But much oak and whiskey. Celestial good bitterness that fills the mouth for a long time. The best of both worlds in a beer? Whiskey + beer = World Class. Follow me @ Kung av l @ Facebook for more pictures and ratings.

Robe noire, opaque, dense, fine mousse.

Could be a nice beer but the oak drowns out the other flavors. Too much oak, disappointed.

Pours virtually black from the bottle. The head has a thin, creamy underlayer beneath a foamy surface, but soon fades to whispy remains amid light lacing. Notable up front is the strong berry aroma. Behind it lingers noticeable smoke and a bit of wood. The taste starts lightly tart, and finishes extremely well with a complex mix of smoke, barrel, and red berry. The body is medium, surprisingly light given the range of flavor. Very good stuff. Best drunken without food to enjoy the subtle range of delights.
