COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Ola Dubh (or "Black Oil") is so named because it is gloopy and viscous. This limited release has been matured in casks from Orkney’s award-winning Highland Park distillery to add complimentary whisky notes to what is already an amazing brew. It is chocolatey with a roasty, bittersweet aftertaste. Special Reserve 18, whisky notes: Highland Park 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky was named Best Spirit in the World by F. Paul Pacult; it offers toffee sweetness, almond nuttiness and a prolonged, smoky aftertaste.

Complex aroma of dark dried fruits, tar and smoke. The taste is also complex with similar flavours with some chocolate in the background. A little bitter, maybe from the wood?

[email protected] place - Black pour with small beige head. Sweet and roasted malty with some prominent whisky notes going on, some chocolate and caramel, burnt charred malty accents, wooden whisky infused accents into the malty finish.

Bottle at home from the Wine Society. A dark pour with a nice head and an aroma of wood and vanilla that I could easily smell 30 cms from the glass. That aroma lasted until the end of the beer and was stunning. The flavour was vanilla and wood and whisky that was in balance, but perhaps weighted towards the vanilla. The mouthfeel was long and oily, but didn't give that long lasting coating that I got with the GKHSR. I keep coming back to that aroma. I've never come across anything like it in anything that I have drunk in my life. Stunning. It was drunk while watching the New Year's Day concert from Vienna in front of a roaring fire. This was my standout Christmas beer.

Pours black with a medium beige head. The aroma is strong in oak, whiskey, and peat, with some earthy malty notes and a touch of smoke. The taste is dry and has some good bitterness. A solid whiskey base is expanded upon by strong earthy and peaty impressions. Some good smoky flavors are here, as well minor oak and raisin. The finish is long and earthy. Medium in body, with a thin texture, and with flat carbonation. While some elements are stronger than others, nothing is over the top, allowing you to fully appreciate all this one offers. Excellent.

Fekete szín, vékonyka hab. Illata visszafogott, tán némi pörkölt maláta, és csokoládé. Édes-keserű-pörkölt íz. Kicsit sok a szénsav, de még így is kiváló.

Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, smoke and coffee. Black without much foam. Medium-high sweetness, medium bitterness. Long lasting taste. Creamy and oily texture, full body. I find this really good!

330ml bottle, from September 2009 - oh yeah! Black pour, large frothy deep tan lasting head. Mild, vinous slightly boozy deep roast aroma - a little oak, not much Islay, but it's chilled a bit. Taste - oh yeah, some age-mellowing has gone on here, but sweet musty oak and light coffee and spiciness - terrific stuff. Slick, decent body, mild carbonation, a little woody acidity in the aftertaste, and you get that mellowed out whisky barrel but just at the right intensity. Lovely.

Brown almost absent head. Dark brown colour. Aroma is malty with coffee raisins and cloves notes. Flavor is malty too with dark chocolate and coffee tones, ending in a slightly roasty and chocolatey finish. Full bodied.

Thanks Sandi for sharing! Poured a very dark brown body with a lasting tan-brown head. Peaty, oily raisins, some cherry/berry jam, heavy maltiness without being cloying. So far so nice. Smooth, oh so smooth malty taste, well integrated rubbery peat, full maltiness, liiiiight tart touch to help things along. Very well balanced, very drinkable, nearly no trace of alcohol. Just classy. Great beer.
