COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Filtered.
Ingredients: Pale malt; Roasted barley; Oats; Washington Galena, Worcester Fuggles and Kent Goldings hops.
A superb, rich, full-bodied beer derived from a 1970s homebrewing recipe. Wickedly smooth chocolate dominates the flavour, which is nicely balanced by the bitterness of the hops.

Raikas, tumma ja väkevä. Aika maukas, mukava siemailla, mutta ei ihan terävimmästä päästä.

From a beer hawk mystery case. Lovely rich stout. Sweet bitter with roasted malts. Pours pure black with no head. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at the porterhouse Charing Cross. Vicious as it says, incredibly bitter after taste but still easy to get down and of course, delicious.

Bottle at home. Pours pitch black, with espresso notes. Little head, with barrel, oily notes. Coffee and dark flavours. Low carbonation. Pleasent bitterness. Quite drinkable. Easy going. Good. I get the hype. Very good.

Bottle, Market Street Wine Shop, Uptown. Can also get at Wine Warehouse (may be lotteried off, though). I know I’ve had this, never rated. This is a rating based on now. Pours black, not as thick as one would expect by the name. Dusting of an off-white head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Flavor is bitter grasses and browning leaves, coffee, molasses. All the hype over? I mean it’s good, but so much more has been accomplished after this...

UPDATED: MAR 4, 2017 Botella de 33 cl. comprada en la tienda online La Casa de las Cervezas de Zaragoza. Estilo porter aunque en etiqueta pone Black ale. Color negro, muy bonito. Espuma color beige generosa. Aromas muy reconocibles a chocolate y toffee. Sabor característico del estilo, ahumado, café, chocolate negro amargo. Una muy buena cerveza escocesa.

Rory’s Birthday bottle. Pours dark brown with soft head. Nice rounded mouthfeel, malases soft brown sugar, roasted malt, smoked wood. Creamy.

Bottle. Virtually Black in colour. Very Malty; dark bitter chocolate, espresso coffee, roast malts, caramel, liquorice. Fruity; slightly sour (berries). Hoppy; earthy hops. Viscous, oily; aptly named beer. Roast chocolate malty throughout with a sour fruity hoppy edge. Dry roast finish. Very nice beer! (2014-09-07)
