COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Filtered.
Ingredients: Pale malt; Roasted barley; Oats; Washington Galena, Worcester Fuggles and Kent Goldings hops.
A superb, rich, full-bodied beer derived from a 1970s homebrewing recipe. Wickedly smooth chocolate dominates the flavour, which is nicely balanced by the bitterness of the hops.

Pours a sexy black with a beautiful tan head. As expected there is an abundance of chocolate and coffee on the nose. Probably one of the easiest drinking porters Ive ever had. Coffee, chocolate and hints of caramel all come into play. Just fantastic.

Pours with barely no foam. Color is very much like oil. Aroma is strongly burnt and old oil-like with roasted malts, raisin, plum, hassel-like nut, raspberry, vanilla, honey and plenty of other aromas. Clearly the aroma of this is very complex. Palate is noticeably oily and the carbonation is weak, in general it could be described "round". However the weak carbonation is not a problem, but I find it to fit this type of beer perfectly. Taste starts with a good amount of bitterness that stays for a while, but its not overwhelming, more like creates a very good "kick". The taste is dominated by burnt tastes. Additionally taste is dominated by the flavour of a very dark (and also slightly bitter) chocolate (like >85% cocoa) and a hint of alcohol. The taste has very little sweetness, but is more like a very well balanced or "straightforward" in terms of sweetness and bitterness. The taste is not nearly as complex as the aroma, but the taste is still very good and anyone liking very dark beers or stouts will probably find this an excellent drink.

Bottle at the porterhouse Charing Cross. Vicious as it says, incredibly bitter after taste but still easy to get down and of course, delicious.

Bottle at home. Pours pitch black, with espresso notes. Little head, with barrel, oily notes. Coffee and dark flavours. Low carbonation. Pleasent bitterness. Quite drinkable. Easy going. Good. I get the hype. Very good.

Bottle, Market Street Wine Shop, Uptown. Can also get at Wine Warehouse (may be lotteried off, though). I know Ive had this, never rated. This is a rating based on now. Pours black, not as thick as one would expect by the name. Dusting of an off-white head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Flavor is bitter grasses and browning leaves, coffee, molasses. All the hype over? I mean its good, but so much more has been accomplished after this...

Botella de 33 cl. comprada en la tienda online La Casa de las Cervezas de Zaragoza. Estilo porter aunque en etiqueta pone Black ale. Color negro, muy bonito. Espuma color beige generosa. Aromas muy reconocibles a chocolate y toffee. Sabor caracterstico del estilo, ahumado, caf, chocolate negro amargo. Una muy buena cerveza escocesa.
