A superb, rich, full-bodied beer derived from a 1970s homebrewing recipe. Wickedly smooth chocolate dominates the flavour, which is nicely balanced by the bitterness of the hops.

Poured out of a bottle into a Delirium glass. Black as night. A solid inch of tan head. So beautiful. Smell: Burnt malt, dark chocolate and a hint of smoke. Taste: Bitter chocolate at first and a good hop bitterness at the end. Medium going towards full body. Slightly creamy with light carbonation. Excellent. A great porter. Nothing bad to say about it.

Deep brown to black, moderate beige head. Aroma: roasted malts, coffee, vanilla, dried fruit. Light to medium body. Roasted malts on tongue. Dry. Decent floral hopping. Lingering bitter finish. Good brew.

Can from Sainsburys. pours black with tall tan head. Nose has chocolate powder, prunes and a nice soft roast like a creamy coffee. Subtle vanilla also. Flavours have treacle and coffee beans. A lovely earthy roasty finish. A medium, soft feel with a moderate dry sparkle. This is a lovely porter style beer with sweet, rich and roasty flavours. Fantastic.

Black or almost so with a good, healty off-white head, which shows nice retention and lacing. Aroma is mellowed (or soft) roasted malts with notes of chocolate, liquorice and maybe slight fruity hints. Not extremely assertive but just that pleasantly clean. Taste has a roasted malts base with just the right amount of sweetness to bring perfect balance. Notes of coffee, chocolate, and maybe a hint of fruitiness. Medium bodied with low carbonation, with a very good velvety, smooth, lighlty creamy feel. Simply put, a very well crafted porter. Good stuff.

Delicious porter, full of rich roasted java notes and a silky smooth texture. Starts with a semisweet chocolate core, modest hints of raisin and cherry and a little anise, then grows a deep, bitter coffee backbone, one that carries the brew through to a dry, roasty finish. The aroma gushes pure porter mocha-filled goodness, and the feels just about perfect. Helluva beer.

UPDATED: MAY 9, 2017 Pours dark brown with foamy beige long lasting head. Aroma of malts, with notes of hazelnuts, nutella, chocolate, espresso, dark fruit esters, earthy, floral, grassy, gentle spicy hop profile. Flavour just follows aroma in all components. Body is medium, texture soft, carbonation is moderate.

2016 catch up - Bottle at home - This was, to me, more like a black IPA and I liked it a lot. A very good mouthfeel and lots of gentle hops; but it wasnt a hop bomb. I would happily drink this again.

Can. Near-opaque brown beer with a thin, light brown head. Smell is chocolate, malt, some tangy fruit. The fruit is quite sharp up front in the taste but uts soon dulled down by dark chocolate, coffee and the earthy malt which is what lingers after the fact. Rich, tasty, lasting. This stuffs magic.
