A superb, rich, full-bodied beer derived from a 1970s homebrewing recipe. Wickedly smooth chocolate dominates the flavour, which is nicely balanced by the bitterness of the hops.

Dark, virtually opaque black, with a creamy coffee coloured foam. Liqueur chocolate prominent in the aroma, with a touch of alcohol coming through .On tasting it starts quite mild, but it builds up soon after with a long lasting bitterness that carries on well into the aftertaste. Unfortunately the body is just a little too weak to hold up to all this, with the flavours unsupported. A worthy drop though.

Kicsi, nem tl tarts hab, fekete szn. Illata csokis, kvs s aszalt gymlcss. Csokis, kvs, aszalt gymlcss zekkel indt, majd szraz, fanyar gymlcsssg jn elő, aztn hossz prklt malts aromval fut ki. Kzepesen testes, kzepesen keserű, enyhn sznsavas. Nem rossz, de a kifutsa nem igazn tetszik.

Bottle. Virtually Black in colour. Very Malty; dark bitter chocolate, espresso coffee, roast malts, caramel, liquorice. Fruity; slightly sour (berries). Hoppy; earthy hops. Viscous, oily; aptly named beer. Roast chocolate malty throughout with a sour fruity hoppy edge. Dry roast finish. Very nice beer! (2014-09-07)

Slight/medium aroma of malts, caramel, dark fruit, chocolate, molasses, roasted malts and smoke.

Opaque black beer with a slight/medium brown head.

Starts slightly/medium sweet with malts, caramel, dark fruit, chocolate and molasses; ends slightly bitter and dry with roasted malts and smoke.

This beer is rather intense, complex and balanced. Like the other beers in this family, the taste is not outspoken at all. Still it manages to hit all the right spots for me, even for its severely lower abv than their other old ales. I can see why this falls under Porters.

Notities: lichte rook in aroma en smaak. Licht verbrand? Ook boze in aroma, kruidenbitter.

Bottle - jet Black, decent tan head - dissipates to small head. Good coffee / chocolate aroma. Slight ting on tongue, though decent density. Good tasting, very drinkable, coffee / chocolate with good finish.

Pours virtually black from the bottle. The head is frothy and lasts for the duration. An aroma of bitter, dark chocolate greets the nose Taste is bitter and tangy with strong roasted notes. Finishes with more dark chocolate. Medium bodied with a pleasant, creamy mouthful. Good solid stuff, but not necessarily something I would seek out again.

Pours a lovely jet black with soft cream head. Smells of molasses and treacle. Tastes of coffee, chocolate with a sweet finish. Lovely.
