3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Back log from Spring of 2011 in Scotland; Cask in Edinburgh. Poured a dark auburn color, didn’t make note of the head. Aroma was mild, caramel and roasted malt for the most part. Flavor had a mild roastiness to it, some cocoa, caramel, and some sweetness. Solid beer.

1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 7/20
I can’t say this did much for me at all. Never had black lager before and I’m not in a rush to go back to it either.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Cask @ Counting House, JDW. Brown colour, beige head. Aroma is light roasted, caramel, bit of chocolate. Flavour is light roasted malts, bit of caramel, slight sour, a bit of smokyness and creamy at the same time. Taste is somewhat peculiar in a very pleasant way. Well drinkable. Another cracker by Harviestoun.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Gravi-cask at the Planet Thanet beer festival. It pours very dark brown with almost no head and soft carbonation. The nose is wood, mint and chocolate, reminiscent of “After Eight” chocolates! The taste is caramel, wood, menthol, toast, bitter chocolate, sesame seed and some astringency, with a long bitter finish. Above average black lager, but is too thin to make me rush back to have it again.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Gravity, Coventry 2011. Dark ruby with copper highlights and a thick, persistent beige collar. Aroma of decaying leaves, chocolate, orange and lavender, slight lemony sharpness- bit Belgian, actually. Vegetal, slightly nutty taste with a slight nut husk and oak aftertaste. Bit of a mish-mash. Love Harviestoun but this doesn’t work for me.

UPDATED: APR 2, 2011 Cask @ The Prince of Wales, Aberdeen. Clear dark reddish brown with a good but fast disappearing head. Mild caramel malt aroma. Sweet caramel flavour. Quite smooth. Unusual for a Scottish beer.
