Cask (gravity) @ The 17th Reading Beer and Cider Festival 2011, Reading, Berkshire England.
Clear dark black brown colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, coffee. Flavor is moderate to light heavy sweet and bitter with a long to average duration, sweet licorice, roasted, dark malt, chocolate, light peat notes. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat.
50cl bottle from the Home Brew Shop, Aldershot. Pours pitch black with a tight tan head; rich, sweet, chocolate aroma; smooth and soft in the mouth, sweet and fruity to start then with a burst of sharply bitter hops before a sweet, lactic, milk chocolate finish with underlying nutty roasted malts and an echo of the hops. Rather good, but too sweet for my taste.
