Bottle- pours deep brown with a ruby hue and a lacy cream head. Aroma is mild roast malt and chocolate. Palate is really fizzy which wipes out the up front taste, when it evens out its dominated by the malt with no real roast flavour. ALLOVATE (3087) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - SEP 30, 2016
Love my black lagers so here goes for a beer from a few of Oz’s finest and maybe an Evil Twin!varanid99 (1399) - AUSTRALIA - AUG 24, 2016
Pours lifeless; no head. Cola brown with brilliant light radiance. Big burst of gas as the cap comes off - feared for a gusher. Aroma of topsoil, pumpernickel, umami, charbroiled beef, kelp, sweaty sock, rubber, lanolin, and all decreasing in love. Gassy palate softens quickly. Quite dry. Powdery chocolate, wood, earth, dust; overall it melds and gets into a tangy twist on the finish. Dusty, metallic, ashen palate. Dull, drabby. Sadly bready and bland. Mild carbonation with a soft oily feel. Just missing quarters! I don’t know if bad beer or bad bottle. Hate to offend but it struggled ’Schwarzbier’ as a style. If unpasteurised it didn’t hold in the bottle. I know brewing so I hope this was that bad bottle. A let down collab!! (33cL, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)
Deep brown, cola coloured pour with a decent pale tan head. Chocolate, slightly smoky malty aroma. Toffee, chocolate, dark fruit and a little smoke flavours - this was pretty good. Itsumishi (49) - AUSTRALIA - MAY 20, 2016
UPDATED: MAY 20, 2016 Poured from a stubbie. Very dark reddy brown, just off black with a thin head that quickly settles into a thin lace. Not much of an aroma. Chocolate, a little coffee, caramel and dried fruits. Taste is much bigger. Coffee comes in strong at the front, toast, chocolate and a bitter pine finish. Palate is sharp, thin and a little oily. Definitely a Larger. Pretty decent but not amazing. Jade (435) - AUSTRALIA - FEB 27, 2016
Brown to black colour, thickish beige head. Malty aroma. Quite smoky, but taste seems a little empty. Nice bitter after taste.

Didn’t pack the punch I thought it might. Cola, light chocolate; super friendly but high fizz distracts the flavour. Drinks very light for 6.5%. KeefOz (1948) - Tarragindi, AUSTRALIA - JAN 24, 2016
Poured a nearly opaque black with a one-finger light tan frothy head that retained OK but laced poorly. Carbonation medium to high and fine. Aroma initially lager-like but then of slightly sweet caramel malt plus slightly roasted grain. Taste of sweet caramel, roasted grain, a hint of coffee and maybe a hint of burnt sugar. Light body. Crisp and smooth with more sweetness than bitterness on the finish. mkel07 (6545) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - JAN 18, 2016
180116. Schwarzbier is one of the hidden gems when it comes to beer styles. We don’t really see a real lot of this style here is Australia for some reason. It is a great style and this is a very good beer.
It pours a thin black colour in the glass with an isolated smattering of foam across the top. There is a lot of smokey malt in the aroma and it smells like this beer is a beefed up brown ale.
In the mouth the beer is thin bodied and again there is a big malt component to this beer and the added goodness of some bitter smoke flavours. Long finish rounds this beer off and even though it is 6.5% ABV this is a beer I could drink a lot of. I purchased this bottle at Archive Beer Boutique and it is a collaborative beer with five breweries having a hand in the brewing of this beer for Good Beer Week.

(Bottle) Black, but if held to light, deep ruby, with small tan head. Aroma of caramel, nuts and hints of dried fruit. Lovely palate - medium body with excellent smooth mouth-filling carbonation. Taste starts quite thin and refreshing but rapidly develops complexity and richness. There’s a nuttiness throughout, with notes of bitter coffee, toffee, burnt sugar and some raisin fruitiness. The finish has a coffee, burnt bitterness. Very drinkable. Muggus69 (2807) - Yarram, Vic, AUSTRALIA - DEC 16, 2015
330mL bottle from Beer Cartel
Deep cola-coloured beer, holds a white head.
Mild aroma; roast nuts, burnt toast, touch of dark caramel & licorice.
Full bodied, moderate carbonation, touch of acrid dryness.
Dry roasty malt continue on the body - nuts, toast, bread, caramels, slight dark fruit & raisin undertones. Dry finish, moderately bitter.
Solid Schwarz, extra booze unnoticed - highly drinkable!
