Small pour on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a richer deep copper pour, orange reddish glow in the body. Firm haze some lighter edges shine a bit on bottom. A cakey offwhite head atop stays as a firm layer and laces well. Aromas are bigger citrus and tropical fruit blend, melon and grapefruit, tangerine and some mango. Big Citra influence with some lemony grapefruit playing backup. Touches of toast, bready malts, florals, and grass. A touch resiny, these hops are fairly vibrant. Initial is firmly bitter, huge grapefruit juice bitterness hits the palate hard up front. A bit juicy, some rind, bready malts and firm florals, grass, lemon. Big grapefruit juice feel. Middle shows more Citra and Amarillo blend, some gumball and tropical fruit elements. Grapefruit, lemon, and orange. Gentle fruit sweetness, bit of bread and dough. Some toast. Backend is bitter and resiny, pine, lingering florals are firm and pleasant. Big bitter hop bomb without a body. Lighter feel, quite drinkable, perhaps even a touch thin. I dig this. The hops scream with big flavor, majority grapefruit juice is almost even a bit sharp. Finish is dry and resiny, grapefruit juice and rind, firm bitterness, touches of Citra driven fruit, gentle sweetness, bread, toast, some straw. Very fresh, lighter drinkable offering in body. Really nice and fresh. A touch more body could give this a 4 on the palate, but overall it’s a strong offering. That Caravienne shows up at times further in, a bit biscuity and caramel feely at times.. But overall, it’s a hoppy lovely offering. Treebs (872) - , Illinois, USA - DEC 23, 2012
Enjoyed on tap at Haymarket. Served in a 12 oz. goblet.
A: Pours a clear amber color with a thin white head. Some splotchy lace is left behind as the beer is drunk.
S: Big notes of pineapple and fresh cantaloupe. Some light cracker malts with a little honeydew melon as well. Extremely fresh fruit and flowery notes.
T: Sweet and tropical fruits with little bursts of citrus. Some pineapple and fresh honeydew melon. Sweet cracker malts, some orange peel, and a little cantaloupe. There is a mild resinous character on the finish that’s a very light bitterness.
M: Ridiculously drinkable. Light body with a medium carbonation level. The finish is sweet and fruity.
O: This was ridiculously good. I actually liked this more than the Mathias I had this day as well. Highly drinkable with a level of balance and freshness that I haven’t had in an IPA in quite some time.
Serving type: on-tap

Draft, pours golden with white head. Aroma has nice tropical fruit, grapefruit, tangerine, lychee. Flavors are bright citrusy, tangerine, honeydew, while a touch of sweet malt is underneath, perhaps a bit too sweet for me but it doesn’t get plasticy so I guess caravienne is a much better alternative to crystal. Creamy mouthfeel. Tasty stuff. pantanap (3367) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - DEC 1, 2012
Pour post zwanze day... Pours a semi-hazy medium orange brown pour topped with a soapy white head... Aroma of dank tropical fruit, mathias to some degree, but less likely so with nevermind somewhat similar malt backing... Flavors are moreso the aforementioned with a cleaner yet still bitter tangerine citrus hop profile. Sweeter through the middle with a nice and adequate inter mixture of hop and malt. Wouldn’t say this is too dissimilar from a junior mathias but nice enough with a pretty citrus semi-tropical fruit hop forwardness. Medium bodied with adequate carbonation. Nice enough.

Draft at Haymarket. Congrats Nathan! Pours a hop-hazed glowing orange-gold. Big sticky and dense head. Nose is really nice. Super clean and juicy hops. Tangerine, passion fruit and resin. A bit catty as well. Clean malt. On tasting, moderate bitterness, well in balance. Light body and refreshing. More of the juicy fruity qualities here, peach and apricot along with the tangerine. Really great IPA and different from Pete’s usual stuff. Great beer!
