Growler at RBWG 2013 Grand Tasting. Thanks, Chris! Pours black-brown with a foamy, beige head. Burnt licorice in the nose, charred wood, dark malts. Big sweet flavor, sweet dark fruits, raisins, fruitcake. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Pretty chewy. Sweet, sticky sugary finish, dark toffee, bittersweet cocoa, raisins. Aroma is dark chocolate and roast malt, figs, prunes, and plums with light spicy hops. Flavor is malt dominant with dark fruity esters, light hops and bitterness with a sweet finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

Draft sample at FoBAB ’12. Pours oily black in color with a small creamy khaki head. The aroma has chocolate, roasted malts, caramel, dark fruits favoring black cherry, coffee, molasses, vanilla and bourbon. The flavor has dark chocolate, roasted malts, dark caramel, molasses, black cherry, moderate sweetness, bourbon, vanilla with a thick mouth feel. Earthy bitterness to the finish. Taste is interesting- licorice, oak, tomato, oak, black pepper, molasses. Palate is dry, spicy, woody, warming. Pretty nice. One of the favorites at the tasting.
