Steve Mosqueda’s wonderful creation... this beeis a pretty awesome brew. I actually thought this beer was going to do some damage at the GABF. The color of the beer is a deep brown/black. The aroma is sweet and chocolatey, with a hint of spice. The flavor is very much the same...roasted malt, chocalty sweetness, but not overly sweet. I hope it makes a comeback in the Spring. gyllenbock (9328) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - OCT 25, 2011
On tap at the Brewpub, October 21, 2011.
Almost black with a small head. Sweet aroma and taste, caramel, malt, dark fruit and some notes of chocolate. Body was medium, low carbonation. Drinkable stuff.

On tap at the brewpub. P is mahogany clear brown w a head that dissipated and barely laced. N is sweet malt some dried fruit and, shocker, rye. Taste is a lot more rye w that bitter finish. Still a very slight roast malt and dry fruit characteristic though it was unbalanced for me. deyholla (11900) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - OCT 14, 2011
On tap at the brew pub. Pours a clear deep brown with a light grayish brown head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has notes of dark grain with a bit of sweetness and a hint of rye. Flavor has a bit of sweet dark grains with some rye and a hint of stone fruits. On tap at the brewpub. Pours deep brown nearly black with a small light tan head. Aroma is sweet and chocolatey roasty with a touch of cola and, bready and just a tiny spicy note. Flavor is very roasty, some chocolate and a hint of smoke, the lager smoothness comes through as the roast fades in the finish to a smooth and slightly dry cocoa. Medium body and a soft carbonation. Decent beer.

On tap at the CBS annual picnic, and dispensed to my hard plastic shaker with a dark brown color, some ruby highlighting, creamy, light tan head foam, and waves & spots of clingy lacing. The aroma was some grain, rich and heavily toasted malt, and touches of cocoa and spice. The flavor was similar, adding low hop bitterness, light sweetness, a better than medium body, a little silkiness to the mouthfeel, and some pleasant dryness to the finish. A fine brew to salute the end of an excellent craft & food event for me! msante79 (2225) - Mount Prospect, Illinois, USA - SEP 9, 2011
On tap at brewpub. Pours dark brown with tan head. Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, and a bit of earthyness. Flavors of roasted malts, chocolate, rye, and some smoke. Finishes dry and a nice rye note. Very solid beer most complete beer I had on tap while I was there. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - SEP 8, 2011
Draft on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a nice dark blackikish pour, near opaque body with a touch of ruby on the bottom. Frothy tannish head dies to a good film, laces ok. Aromas are touches of roasted and toasty malts, rye malts, bread, and a faint spice. Faint anise and cocoa, some more roast, light floral. Faint earthy smoke. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied with a good element of roast and toast up front slipping into biscuits, rye, touches of earthy smoke and roast, some cocoa, faint coffee. Anise doesn’t show up, instead turning this beer into a smooth and balanced, slanted into the darker roast world, beer. Easily drinkable, with cocoa growing into the backend, lingering dark and sweeter chocolate, roast, earth, toast, biscuits, bread, touches of rye. Finish has lingering cocoa, faint spicy quality and earthy roast lingering on. Really nice drinker here. Kinda amazed it hits 7 ABV as it goes down easy with some wonderful flavor play on the palate. draft... dark mahogany with lots of amber on the fringes, nice light tan head, great lace... light nose that gives some nice rye, but a little plain... tastes great lots of chocolate with a bit of roast, super drinkable... try this pantanap (3366) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 2, 2011
4oz sampler at the hay... Darker burnt dark cola
caramel pour, just a touch of transparency, while topped with a creamy fluffy light tan head... Grains, dark fruit, and a faint roast character comprises up of the nose... Creamy roast, chocolate, and smooth grainy flavor profile almost chewy in nature albeit in the smoothest of ways. Semi-sweet all around while finishing with a touch of earthy grassiness, a hint of a light spice. Good body and texture to this one. I liked it especially for its flavor and mouthfeel qualities.
