Poured from tap at haymarket. Poured into a tulip and pours a dark amber/gold color.
Very good aromas of grains, hops, malts and some navel oranges along with amber grains. Nice depth as well with good balance.
Medium/full bodied with a very nice feel and flavors of navel oranges, amber grains, and some malts as well.
this was a real good biere de garde. Very nice and balanced both on the smell and taste. TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - AUG 9, 2012
Draft offering on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a richer golden amber pour, orange deeper hues in the middle and glowing edges. A decent haziness, frothy whitish head atop dies to a firm ring, laces ok as it sticks around in a filmy capacity. Aromas are a bit clovey and fruity, mellow banana ester, touches of dry and gentle spiced yeasty elements. Chamomile herbal element starts to stand out as it warms more, bit of citrus but not. Much as some mellow dryness, touches of fruit give the feel of this one. Initial is medium bodied, perhaps a touch lighter offering mellow dryness, bready malts up front. Touches of fruit, clementine/tangerine zest makes it’s appearance at this point. Orange juice gives some tang and citrus. Middle gives more yeast, dryness, touches of Chamomile herbal elements with some dry earthy hops. More fruit elements come into play as some of that fruity ester, gentle clementine come in at times. Bit of peach, clementine and orange dances in and out. Backend and finish is mellow sweet bready and doughy malts, a bit crisp and dry earthy hops, kiss of citrus. Mellow chamomile, bit of yeastiness, and dry mellow hop element lingering on finish and aftertaste. I really dig the Clementine and orange element and some of the fruit. I think without it, the beer would be a bit "Hum Drum". Overall, it’s pretty enjoyable. A solid beer for certain, offering some nice additions that give it some complexities. Draft at Haymarket. Pours a hazy gold with a frothy white head. Nose is peppery with citrus and pear esters coming though as well. Doughy malts. On tasting, it is quite dry with a pleasing fruity quality overall. Quite clean and crisp. The citrus comes through and the hop characteristics are quite generic overall. Medium bitterness. Solid beer, this one. drewbeerme (3920) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 5, 2012
Draft at Haymarket, pours glowing golden orange with white head. Aroma is packed with juicy citrus clementines, spicy and phenolic yeast. Flavors are juicy clementines, spicy earthy rye and black pepper, tingly citrus lingers on the palate as the bitterness sticks around awhile. Not really a biere de garde or what I think of as one as this is much closer to Pete’s hoppy Belgian pales but this is pretty tasty nonetheless. burg326 (5482) - Florida, USA - AUG 4, 2012
On draft at brewery, pours a dark orange color, aromas of potperi, spice, and light malt. Flavors are the same, interesting beer, dont know if I like the style.
