draft. hazed gold with a fine white head. enjoyable nose of ripe banana esters, light pepper / clove character, low sugar, medium-high mustiness from the Belgian yeast, it all plays together very well. just-sweet orange / lemon flavored pale malt with dry pepperiness and prickliness late; medium-full body; chewy and syrupy but not overbearing, rather well-suited for it’s size and character. medium high acid, medium bitterness, good presentation of fruit esters and minerals. Draft. Poured gold with a white head. High ABV sweetness. Nice fruit flavor, Belgian yeast, and sweet. Okay brew.

On tap at the brewpub. Poured a hazy gold with a white head that dissipated to the edges. Aroma had notes of sweet grains and fruit with a bit of clove and other spices. Flavor was similarly fruity with plum and apples coming through as well as notes of sweet grains and light spice. drewbeerme (3920) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 7, 2011

Draft at Haymarket. Pours a transparent gold with a sticky white head. Nose is robust, malt character isn’t as soft as I would expect for a Belgian. Big and tough with a slight vegetal note in this one, both in the nose and the taste. Alcohol causes a sweetness upfront but finishes dry. Has some astringency that I think is coming from the yeast. Distinct warming alcohol that isn’t unpleasant. A decent beer, but a bit one dimensional and lacking the finesse of the great tripels. Okay.

Draft on tap at the brewpub (Chicago, IL). Pours a dulled golden hue, some light haze, fiery golden straw with a creamy offwhite moderate head that stays firm, laces well as a decent layer. Aromas are touches of honeycomb, sweet bread, cereal grains, and some fruity estery gentle pear. Touches of floral and grassy hops, some light yeasty spice. Overall, light on the olfactory. Initial is medium bodied preaching a sweet malt front: honey, bread, cereal grains, sweeter fruit nectary baked apples, pears. Sweeter, some touches of warming ABV into the back end, sweet honey, florals and grass, touches of light dry hops into the finish try their best to balance, but fall short. Touches of rose hips, sweet grains, apples. Sweet lingering malts into the finish, touch of dryness. Ok. A bit sweet and big for my personal tastes. A bit tame, it throws a touch of rind.. But falls in complexity.
