Draft on tap at Little Goat (Chicago, IL). Pours a rich deep amber brown hue, darker, a good haze, with some deeper glowing edges. Copper and orange glow with a bigger cakey beige tannish head atop, sticks around and laces well. Aromas are a bit sticky, caramel and cocoa nibs, some dry toasty malts, toffee, and gentle red and dried fruit. A bit sticky and sweet on the nose, carmelized. Initial is medium bodied, a bit heavier, with caramel, toast, and cocoa. Gentle hits of dryness, some touches of oak, vanilla, and wet wood. Middle is gentle sweetness, malt, toast and caramel. Gentle cocoa nibs. Some spice, red and toffee malts, toast. Backend tries to get a bit dry, cocoa, and gentle hops. The sweeter red fruit and toffee middle sticks around, gives some body. Finish is dry, a gentle fruit feel, cocoa, mellow toast and caramel. An oddity, but it certainly runs the gambit of flavors. I guess that was the goal as a restaurant focused beer. Solid, if a bit odd into the finish.
