Lightship starts as Headlands’ Pt. Bonita Pilsner and is aged in cabernet barrels inoculated with a blend of souring yeasts and bugs. This solera style has roots to their first batch of pilsner, as each year a few gallons are left behind to kick off the next batch. This year’s version has light peach and citrus aromas with a faint vanilla presence from the oak.
Draft @ Sour Sunday 2017, Berkeley, CA. Pours a hazy golden color with a small white head. Has a fruity weak sour grainy woody wine aroma. Fruity malty grainy weak woody flavor. Has a fruity weak sour woody wine finish.
On tap @ Sour Sunday 2016. Pale straw colored beer with a white head. Really funky and cidery. A lot of grape skin, sulfur, and phenolics like white pepper. A hint of plastic, too. Almost skunky, oddly. There is some sourness and acidity. Just a mess overall and not really a fan.
