Ruby red color with a thin white head. Sweet flavors and aromas with a very bitter aftertaste. I would have liked to see some more lasting flavors considering its finish is kind of strong and harsh. Pretty good beer.

Good clear, ruby body, small white head. Decent roasted, sweet aroma. Slight harsh aftertaste. Nice roasted, spicy flavor. Good.

this was decent, and better than i expected. amber with golden highlights in the glass with medium white head. a bit on the spiced side, with almost a carmel undertone... really hit the spot after a long day at work.

Decent red ale, just not my favorite style. good malt and roasted qualities, a bit spicy, some lacing.

from the sampler at the Union Square Heartland location. My poorly scribbled notes say "Red." "Ambery." and "Good." , which pretty much sums up this beer

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2005 Really liked this beer. Roasted and delicious. Unique black-gold-tan color that looks cool in the glass. Nice ale aroma, cherry aftertaste? Would have it again, even after our "seasonal journey of beer". More notes: Had this again, on my 22nd birthday, at the Union Sq. location. This seem to be a real explorer’s/traveller’s beer. Ask me what I mean by that later. Caramelly and rich aftertaste on the mouth and teeth. It lingers. It’s wonderful. My favorite non-seasonal Heartland, by far.

Draught at Heartland Brewery, New York.
Creamy off-white head, clear dark amber body. Stout-like aroma of roasted malt, spices and hops. Rather malty and spicy flavor, notes of pepper and flowers. Dry finish. A flavorfull and tasty ale.

Dark copper in colour. Aroma had a sugary sweetness, some caramel malt, some hops. Flavour of caramel malt, citrus(oranges and grapefruit). Medium body and carbonation. Finishes with a medium citrus bitterness. Quite nice.

Tasted in NYC. Tasted at Heartland brewery. Deep reddish-copper colour. Small head, slightly malty sweet aroma. Fairly well balanced but nothing really signifigant.
