Gooseberry Wheat Ale
From the Gaelic "Groseid". Since at least the 16th century Scots monks and alewives brewed indigenous drinks from cereals, wild herbs and ripe fruits. Tibbie Shiels green Grozet was immortalised by such Scots literati as Sir Walter Scott, Jas Hogg. (The Ettrick shepherd) and Robert Burns whoconsidered it a most convivial drink.
Brewed with lager malt, wheat, bog myrtle, hops and meadowsweet then secondary fermented with ripe Scottish gooseberries.
A pale golden beer, with a refreshing fruit aroma, clean palate, fruity wheat flavour and crisp finish. Recommended with, light foods, pastas and salads.
Drink well chilled in a tall glass.

Again, what can I say about this brewery? I love all of their beers and this is no exception. The fruity, almost floral nose is perfected by the very crisp, clean flavor.

330 mL Bottle. Yellow body with a frothy white head that settles to a film and clings generously to the glass. Aroma of light sweet malts, pungent resiny hops, a little hint of pine, and pronounced floral notes. Flavor of light sweet malts with spicy-pungent hops, notes of grapefruit rind, a little hint of lemon, a spicy-herbal aftertaste, and a hoppy-herbal finish. Another beer with a somewhat citrusy character that I hold in high esteem.

Bottle at Hop City. A good, fairly neutral wheat beer. Not much flavor in the way of gooseberries or fruitiness, but a nice, mild wheat taste with an easy, clean palate. Could drink several of these.

Kind of lagery. Tasty. Complicated aftertaste. Flowery?..................

This is one of my top 5 favorite beer! I wish it were available in larger quantities here in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It’s only available in a "gift pack".

0,33l Flasche Grozet Gooseberry Ale. Hellgelb trüb, wenig Schaum. Sehr beeriger Duft. Hollunder, rote Johannisbeere, Stachelbeere. Frischer Stachelbeer Geschmack, dazu Hopfen und sanft bitter im Abgang. Dieses Bier hällt was es verspricht, es ist ein leckeres Stachelbeerbier. Leider ist es hier vollkommen unterbewertet!

Tawny color in the glass. Smells like chocolate covered cherries. Tastes very sweet, but delicious. Rated 8/14/02
