"Seaweed Ale"
Prior to the 1850's there were many Scottish coastal alehouses which brewed their own ales, these ales were made from local malted barley which was grown on fields fertilised with seaweed. This environment gave the barley a very specific flavour which we have recreated by the inclusion of fresh seaweed in the mash tun. In addition to the seaweed (bladder rack) harvested on the Argyll coast we have used only organically grown malt - the darker malts roasted by ourselves.
Kelpie is a rich chocolate ale which has an aroma of fresh seabreeze and a distinctive malty texture.
Drink lightly chilled in a wine glass.

A - Dark brown/red with 1 finger of tan head. S - Roasted malts, cocoa powder, prunes, raisins, hints of soy sauce, alcohol. T - Follows the nose, roasted malt, mildly smoked soy sauce, slightly brackish. The finish reminds me of watered down coke in way. M - Medium thin body, low carbonation. Didnt get any seaweed notes. The malts are nice but are very mellow and a bit watered down. Serving type: bottle 09-26-2011

Pours up dark brown with red hues and a tan head. Aroma is sweet and nutty toasted malts. Taste is earthy roast, malt loaf, little raisin. Sweet and rounded taste with a nutty, malty, earthy twang. Some mineral, salty, notes. Moderate carbonation, little brackish finish. Not bad.

Donkerbruin bier met een grote beige schuimkraag. Geur: geroosterde mout, wat mineraal/jodium, koffie en lichtjes cacao. Smaak: licht zoet, broodkorst, chocolademelk, noten. Lichte tot medium body. Afdronk: licht zoet, mineraal, wat groenten. Niet slecht.

Decent stout-esque beer. Aroma of faint oysters, and sea salt chocolate; much more filter coffee in the mouth. Not the fullest and creamiest of stouts but also not thin. I like this, and so much better than l expected with seaweed involved.

Not bad, not bad at all! In fact, its quite good! Comes in a dark brown pour that lets almost no light pass through, with a huge head that stays there for some time. Taste is full of chocolate malt, maybe a tad salty, resembling the sea. Overall, its not too bitter (in fact, quite sweet) and really nice to drink! Go try it!

Deep dark brown color with nice tan coca foam. (surprised thought it would be pale color) Aromas mainly malt, especialy chocolate malt and in general smells like nice sweet milk chocolate, and thats baout it? Does relly remind of stout or porter. Palate, medium body with light smooth and slick texture leaving nice smoked malt finish. Taste is sweet, smoked malt in a way with chocholate notes. Overall, nice! Does really remind of Lithuanian dark beers, just thoght it might be sour or something like that? Maybe my tastebuds died? I had seaweed ale beffore from another brewery and it was somethign way different. Still this beer is nice, if you like nice soft not overwhelming dark beer it is for you.

Dark brown with an almost white head. Body is on the light side of medium. Flavour has chocolate, malt and dark fruit. Seaweed? No idea.

Shared 16.9 oz. bottle. Dark brown with a surprisingly light off-white head. Nose is roasted malt, chocolate, with maybe some mineral/vegetal notes that Id hesitate to call "fresh sea breeze". Taste follows, with almost an imperceptible saltiness. More watery than expected given the style, but not bad.

Aroma: seawater with chocolate mixed in; Im scared; Appearance: dark brown with an unnaturally white head; some lacing; Taste: a watered down chocolate stout; Palate: medium body (was expecting heavy) with a watery finish that wasnt all bad; Overall: "not as bad as the other one" (Lobster Lovers). Wouldnt buy again.
