I am a big fan of Heavy Seas beers since they are local for me, and Loose Cannon is my favorite American IPA, so i was very eager to try this dark version of Loose Cannon. I loved it! Now to be honest i have not had many dark IPA’s, but the taste of this beer is so smooth and easy to drink. It has a somewhat fruity taste (no where near that of the Loose Cannon) with more coffee/chocolate. To me, not as good as Loose Cannon but still a great beer that is very plesant to drink! bmthom (1) - South Carolina, USA - MAR 11, 2013 does not count
Pours pitch black with a nice head. Nice lacing. Great hops to malt balance. Overall very enjoyable nathan30533 (1020) - Clifton, Ohio, USA - APR 4, 2011
Awesome beer. The way a black IPA should be. Very hoppy but a smith malt finish. Williamtlow (4) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - MAY 15, 2012 does not count
Great balance with the roasted malt holding off the bitter hops. Excellent interpretation of the black ipa style. Sweet chocolate/toffee front with a hoppy finish. AndyW68 (1557) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - JAN 26, 2013
Dark brown, nearly black with a mocha head. Smells of roasted malt and caramel. The taste starts off mild with some earthy hops, turns to sweet caramel and roasted malt. The finishes with mild chocolate and coffee bitterness. Overall very nice. Can see mysrlf buying it again.

I found the IPA part to be a bit lost in the cask version of Black Cannon, being vacant of the fruity aroma of a lighter IPA and not nearly as boldly hoppy. It finished very nicely, leaving a satisfied feeling to remember it by. Another winner by Heavy Seas! nearbeer (5462) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - FEB 26, 2013
12 oz, bb Jun 2013. Opaque black with a lasting small disc of bubbles. Aromas of grapefruit, green herb, earthy resin, aged beef and roasted bean. Flavors of resin, espresso, grapefruit, dank green herb, toffee, hickory smoke and chocolate. Medium body is exquisitely smooth and slightly oily with light-medium carbonation and a perfect balance. Dark and tasty. Great lacing with a nose of the dark malts, and hops. Roasty finish with a little lingering hop.

Pours very dark. Medium head. Malty and bitter. Just the way I like it. By far my favorite black IPA... robgibbens (432) - Gaithersburg, Maryland, USA - MAY 24, 2014
Black Cannon pours, well, black. The short tan head leaves nice lacing. The dark roasted malts are apparent with blackberries and cherry present in the aroma. The flavor is not overly bitter. The darker malts balance out the hops. Finish is clean and smooth. Very nice complement to Loose Cannon.
