Style: American IPA
Hops: Warrior, Simcoe, Palisade, Centennial, Cascade, Citra
Malts: 2-Row, Caramalt, Munich

Our flagship beer, Loose Cannon wins people over at first smell. The carefully cultivated interplay of Simcoe, Palisade, and Centennial creates a most fragrant IPA—its nose bursts with notes of grapefruit, herbs, and pine. Bitterness is somewhat subdued by the floral quality that pervades the taste. The color is burnished gold, and the mouthfeel is creamy. A strong malt backbone balances out the triple-hopped beer. Its nickname, Hop3, comes from the brewing process: our brewers hop Loose Cannon in the boil, the hopback, and the fermenter. It won a second place CAMRA award at the 2010 Great British Beer Festival.

Bottle - huge pine hop nose. Very bright and fresh. Pale orange body with a white head. Flavor disappointed slightly. Quite sweet with a fairly one dimensional hope profile - but a nice, long finish. A good one, but not a great one.

Beer pours attractive apricot color with a totally retained off quite colored head. Aroma is pungentely citric hops, primarily grapefruit. Also a bit of fresh juice aroma though not as much as some. Flavor is initially sharply bitter, nicely so, the finish is also spicy bitter, not overy dry with just a touch of sweetness. This really is a nice IPA though stetching the limits of IPA dom with its 7.5% ABV. Alcohol is totally hidden, btw. Very enjoyable.

A true beer for hop-heads, I’ve seen this beer described as a Double IPA and from the aroma and dryness, I’d agree. I LOVE the floral aroma, but the bottled appearance - it was supposed to be bottle-conditioned - left something to be desired. Still, if you like (love) hops, find a six-pack and clear your afternoon schedule.

12oz. bottles. Bronzy gold color with a medium sized rocky white head. Tangy mango and strawberry hop aromatics. Citric hop bitterness up front, lends a vegetal, slightly soapy character to the underlying malt. Residual resinous hop flavor in the finish, with some buttery maltiness. Mouthfeel is a solid medium, somewhat dry.

On tap at RFD during RBSG 2006. Lots of hops. Maybe Hops cubed. The priority is on aroma and flavor and not bitterness. Hop aroma that you can chew. The hop oils climb into the olfactory lobes and scream their alpha. Good lacing from a off-white head that clings to the glass. Dark gold beer in color. I could drink a bathtub full of this.

[Bottled, thanks chris_o!] Clear amber, small creamy head. Powerful citric grapefruit aroma. Sweet, fruity, chewy and caramelly with full body. Medium bitterness. An IPA dominated by aromatic hops.

This beer has anice spicy floral aroma to it. Thats probably the best part of this beer if you ask me. Albeit the flavor was good...it just didnt live up to the good aroma that leaves you expecting some that same level from the flavor. I agree with what a lot of other people have said in that the taste and smell is heavily dominated by pine. The apperance is a nice clear golden red color, with hardly any head to speak of. My first Clipper City brew but I enjoyed it. Thanks Jay!

Draft at Taphouse @ Ghent, 8/5/06: Nice! Big soapy head. Slick to the tongue. Grapefruit, mostly, but not as puckeringly tart. Almost too hoppy without a firm basis, like building a great house on a crappy piece of land. But excellent.
