Hops: Warrior, Simcoe, Palisade, Centennial, Cascade, Citra
Malts: 2-Row, Caramalt, Munich

Our flagship beer, Loose Cannon wins people over at first smell. The carefully cultivated interplay of Simcoe, Palisade, and Centennial creates a most fragrant IPA—its nose bursts with notes of grapefruit, herbs, and pine. Bitterness is somewhat subdued by the floral quality that pervades the taste. The color is burnished gold, and the mouthfeel is creamy. A strong malt backbone balances out the triple-hopped beer. Its nickname, Hop3, comes from the brewing process: our brewers hop Loose Cannon in the boil, the hopback, and the fermenter. It won a second place CAMRA award at the 2010 Great British Beer Festival.

Floral, citrus, hopy smell. Golden, semi cloudy body. Light malt body followed by an pine/earthy taste, with a citrus finish. The citrus lingers long after. Mildly hopy, great tasting IPA. Pine/earthy taste is the most prevalent after your palate settles in.

From notes. Had this on draft at Chick’s Oyster Bar in Virginia Beach on May 24. The pour is a darker golden orange with a thin ring of light off white head and a few spots of soapy lace as it falls. It’s interesting. The aroma is pretty good. There is a strong citrus and bitterness up front before the strong malts kick in. There is a light alcohol on the nose, and a little bit of bitter rind. The flavor is where it falls apart. It’s got a really sharp alcohol happening. It’s enormously bitter, and then fades into something almost sweet. The hop and pine resin just doesn’t work and the sweetness of the malts is a mess. The mouth feel is watery, yet a little thick with a sharper carbonation and a lingering bitter alcohol on the finish. This one definitely is not for me.

From a growler into a pint glass. Fantastic tropical aroma. Light body. frothy white head and lacing. Taste is straight up tropical fruit. Mango, pineapple, lots of the good stuff. Yum! sure to buy this again if it’s fresh.

On draft in DC. Aroma of tropical and citrus fruit. Some piney notes. A little malt comes thru. Caramel? Appearance is a clear orange with off white head. So-so head retention. Nice lacing Flavor is tropical fruit. Mango. Passionfruit. Some citrus notes. Moderate bitterness but lots of hop flavor. Fruit lingers in aftertaste Mouthfeel - good carbonation. Dry finish. Very nice. Overall - a great example of what IPA should be. Not too bitter but has lots of hop flavor. Wish aroma was stronger. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

(12oz bottle) AROMA: hops, citrus, citronella, fresh, some notes of pine and cloves, celery. APPEARANCE: medium golden Amber, foamy nead, mostly clear. TASTE: roasted malt and corn, some sweetness, smokey, tobacco, toast, some citrus and tartness, aged cheese. PALATE: well balanced, medium to heavy body, fresh and smooth upfront, solid bitterness that does linger a bit on the cheeks. OVERALL: very nice ipa. Good balance of chewy malts and fruity/herbal hops, touch sweet upfront / touch dry on the finish, quite enjoyable. delicious without being overbearing.

On cask, Ginger Man Boston. Deep copper colour, white foam. Quite malty, slightly crystal flavour, sweet background. Oily nice hop, some pine, some tropical fruit and berries. Defined bitterness, not obvious at first. Unusual one, not bad.

Light flavor, thinner, slight bitter/sour. Not as flavorful as I like in a strong IPA.
