It’s time! Well, it looks just like a barley wine. That’s a good sign. There’s a slight release from opacity, with a dark amber colored body and an off-white head. The aroma is not what you’d normally expect form a barley wine, though. It seems very much of dark caramel malts in the aroma – so much so that it almost smells like tobacco. The flavor is somewhat syrupy, thick, and herbal. Wow, it’s unique. It feels like an imperial IPA in the mouth, but smooth and light from the oak aging. It finishes much stronger than an imperial IPA, though, high in alcohol, slightly malty, and with a definite hop presence that’s well-infused with that alcohol. I love it. The bourbon is gentle, but defines much of the beer’s character. Why do I want to watch TrueBlood? b3shine (8874) - Indiana, USA - JAN 24, 2013
Bottle to snifter. Looks good; much like the other one. A semi-transparent copperish-brown with thin off-white lacing. Smells good too; better than the cabernet barreled version. The bourbon barreling is much more prominent, and you pick up that sweet vanilla flavor. Tastes like it smells, but it alittle hot. Average on the palate. Solid, but not spectacular. Sample from a 22oz bottle at Jungle Jim’s Barrel Aged tasting. Clear orange - yellow color. Minimal white head, leaves decent dots of lace. Good bourbon nose. Nice vinous grape flavor. Bigger body, smooth creamier texture. Light bitter taste, sweetness. Vanilla, vinous aftertaste. Gotta love Below Decks.. Always an excellent value for the money Ron (3961) - Rochester, New York, USA - JAN 19, 2013
On tap at Tap and mallet. Dark but translucent pour with a film and ring of white bubbles with nice lacing as well. Nose of bourbon, honey, more bourbon, caramel, and brown sugar. Taste of brown sugar, bourbon, alcohol, honey, fairly smooth, vanilla, chocolate, spicy and alcohol in the finish. kimjongill (207) - - JAN 16, 2013
From tap. Bourbon and oak aroma. Sweet bourbon taste with a sligh amount of bitterness and hop flavor adding bite. Great mouthfeel.

Smells sweet like a barley wine, but also has the bourbon nose. Nice red pour with a small white head. Has the barley wine sweetness without any hops really to balance it. The bourbon is thrown on top. Not sure it works, but it’s good enough. Chuckaduck (674) - Highland Heights, Kentucky, USA - JAN 9, 2013
Pours red-brown with a thick white head. Aroma is lots of bourbon, some dark fruit and vanilla. Not real complicated, lots of bourbon. Taste is led by bourbon, some dark fruit, some vanilla, some spicy and herbal notes. Mostly that bourbon. I would have liked a bit more complexity, flavor-wise. The bourbon dominated this for me. Wasn’t the barley wine that I was hoping for. Still, I enjoyed it; very drinkable. ellolovey (483) - Georgia, USA - JAN 2, 2013
Growler from Cumming Growler Shop. Pours a dark red with a white frothy head. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, fruit esters. Nice alcohol warmth that isn’t overwhelming. Bourbon, vanilla, and dark fruits dominate taste. Hints of oak. A little too light bodied. Expected more of a full body. A bit of an oily texture. Subtle lingering bitterness on the finish with a slight resinous taste. Westmeister (2129) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - JAN 1, 2013
Bottle. Pours a murky ruby/brown with minimal off white head. Smell is bold creamy vanilla, oak, big sweetness -delicious. Taste is marzipan, vanilla, booze, lite dark fruits, oak. Booze comes thru both in taste and going down. Overall nice but too boozy for 10%, Iphonephan (6988) - Jackson Hole/McLean, Virginia, USA - DEC 22, 2012
On cask at rustico Arlington. Pours a dark reddish brown with a thin off white head. Bourbon and vanilla nose. Sweet and boozy with luscious dark cherry, raisin and toffee notes. Warming alcohol finish. A winner for a cold winter day.
