Very dark brown pour with a thin tan head. Sweet vanilla aromas. Smoothly woody oaky vanilla flavors. Malty and big bodied ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma is all bourbon notes: vanilla, creme egg, oak and slight hazelnut. Pours deep red/brown with a small foamy lace. Taste is big with lots of bourbon notes, mostly oak and vanilla with just a hint of root beer. Strong booze feel but the taste compliments. Pretty solid.

Bottle. Pouts darker brown had small head didn’t stick around much. Taste smell booze vanillia caramel wood smoke sweet dark fruits. Not too bitter which was nice. Just so thin got boring. Would like some texture. But good stuff middle road.

Draught at Lexington Beerworks. Oak and bourbon. Vanilla. Light body. A bit boozy overall. Not bad, but want more body.

In short: A sweet Sambuca flavored barley wine with only moderate bourbon barrel presence. Uninteresting
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed when probably one year of age. Bottle from a friend from the dark site of the beer web sites. Thanks Heath
The look: Mostly clear copper-bronze body, many small particles, medium beige head
In long: Unimposing nose of sweet pastry (baklavas comes to mind), barley candy and timid bourbon notes. Taste is malt sweetness over more malt sweetness, sucking a big kid barley candy lollipop, caramel, sweet sugary pasty, a big shot of Sambuca, raisin bread, some vanilla, light notes of bourbon soaked oak, star anise like spiciness. Full big doughy mouthfeel. Very very sweet. The Sambuca and anise-like spiciness were not much fun. Smooth at first but gets more and more abrasive the more you drink it, I almost didn’t finish my bomber. Another disappointing bottle from Heavy Seas, and you’d be surprised at how many people will try to avoid you if you walk towards them smiling and with a bottle of Heavy Seas in one hand and an axe in the other.

On tap 1/2 pint at Gilly's Craft Beer & Fine Wine in Rockville, MD. Nearly opaque, deep mahogany with nice buff head and very good lacing. Aroma of sweet malt, oak, toffee, vanilla and fig with a hint of spice. Very sweet taste of brown sugar, oak, red grapes, toffee, vanilla, plums, raisins, figs, molasses and booze. Tastes like a caramelized bourbon barrel. Sweet but flavorful. Medium/light body with medium/low carbonation. Although too sweet for its own good, this is nevertheless an good beer even in its youth. It will be interesting to see how this ages. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle 650ml. Pours brown/mahogany with nice creamy beige head. Some lacing. Aroma is of figs, bread, dark fruits, sweetness, butterscotch, alcohol, malt, bourbon. Taste is of bread, figs, dark fruits, warming alcohol, malt, bourbon. Palate: oily mouthfeel, full bodied, malty. Very good. Impressive. This is my kind of beer.

Bottle (650 ml). Thanks to biere_froide for this one! Dark amber beer with a small white head and fair lacing. Aroma of bourbon (not overwhelming), plum, fig, dark fruits and malt. Taste of bourbon, dark fruits, malt and caramel. Slight bitterness at the end. Mouthfeel is oily. Medium to full body. Warming alcohol. Good bourbon barrel barley wine but not outstanding.

Draft. Bocktown. Mahogony ruby color. I love oak aged beers and this one is up to the task. Beautiful oak aroma with some caramel and slight fruit. Same with the taste. Just beautiful oaked flavors compliment this beer. Complex. Well done.

22 oz Bomber-Brownish pour w/good lacing. Bourbon aroma. Flavors of wood chips, Bourbon Barrels, some peat....mostly Bourbon. Solid brew, enjoyable.....not as good as the Cabernet Barrell, but good. Long Finish.
