Bottled. A dark amber beer with an off-white head. The aroma has notes of malt, spices, caramel, and hops. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, alcohol, over ripe fruits, and caramel, leading to a bitter finish. anders37 (27062) - Malmö, SWEDEN - SEP 12, 2011

Draft. Clear dark amber color. Aroma of whiskey and vanilla. Taste is similar. The whiskey overwhelms the beer. Papsoe (25056) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUN 17, 2011

A: The pour is a surprisingly clear amber color with just about no head and minimal visible carbonation.
S: I don’t really pick up much bourbon, but some hints of vanilla do make their way into the nose. The nose is mostly toffee, molasses, and a bit of caramel. The usual aromas, but somewhat muted.
T: The flavor is just as flat and one-note as the nose (if not a bit more). There is more bread than anything else on the nose with molasses and a hint of vanilla, along with some alcohol.
M: The body is quite thin for a barleywine and the carbonation is minimal.
D: A rather bland effort for a barrel aged barleywine. I would not really bother with this one. Theis (15151) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - JUN 20, 2011
Bottle at Papsø’s - Thanks. Clear amber/brown - offwhite head. Nutty, chocolate, bourbon, light bitterness, vanilla, red berries, fruity, coconut, light wine notes, sparkling feeling. Nice. Tmoney99 (14983) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - OCT 3, 2010
Draft. Poured reddish brown color with an average frothy light brown head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate to heavy dark fruit, toasted malt, alcohol and wood aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy dark fruit bittersweet flavor with a medium to heavy bourbon bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a complex standout beer.

A reddish copper barleywine with a thin off white head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with light vinous notes, light bourbon barrel notes, woody notes, alcohol warmth, very nice and smooth. In mouth, a nice sweet caramel malt with vinous notes, loads of treacle, light butterscotch, resinous hops, light nutty notes, alcohol warmth, light bourbon vanilla, very nice. Bottle from Pushkinwow at GRMs tasting. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - JUN 8, 2010
22oz bottle. Small off-white head atop clear copper body. Aroma is moderately sweet, caramel, some vanilla/Bourbon, some orange. Taste is moderately sweet, caramel, some vanilla/Bourbon, light vinous, alcohol. Medium-full body, some stickiness. Nice use of Bourbon barrels -- to complement rather than dominate the beer. Quite different (and much better) than the Cab version, tasted back-to-back.
