El bombero del diablo (2012) - pours murky amber with yellowish-brown head and it lacing. Nose is bourbony and sugary. Flavor adds alcohol, caramel, and rye. Sweetnd quite so. Apple/pear aftertaste. Dominated by the bourbon, but it might reveal more goodness as it warms. Bitter (unripe almond) taste in the back of the throat. Provides a literary buzz (Naked Lunch movie reference). radio_nowhere (1472) - Maryland, USA - FEB 15, 2013
UPDATED: FEB 16, 2013 Bomber into snifter glass. deep reddish-brown color with thin white head that disappears into a ring. Aroma of bourbon, oak, caramel, dark fruits and some vanilla. Taste is the aroma, adding some spiciness, chocolate and alcohol. Full body, low carbonation smooth with somewhat boozy finish. Warming and complex. IMHO much better then their regular Barleywine!

This was a fine barrel aged release and worth trying once. This particular bottle had about two years on it and has held up reasonably well. The next time I buy one though I may just drink it fresh. If you are a fan of the style pick up an affordable and relatively accessible bottle.
Aroma / Appearance - The bottle poured with lots of sediment. A thin short lived head collapsed downwards. Thick caramel, vanilla, and chocolate are like a sundae in a glass. Dense and chewy the ABV is hardly subtle.
Flavor / Palate - The taste of warm maple syrup matches the thick chewy mouthfeel. Warm hits of midrange bourbon sweep across the palate before the oaky finish. This is heavy - one or two pours was enough for me. That said it was also a great deal at about $7.99 and something worth trying again.
22 oz bottle at home. Pours a hazy amber color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have caramel, brown sugar, mild bourbon, wood, dark fruits, vanilla, pretty much all malts and sweet barrel stuff, I like the English style barleywines better generally, but this is missing something, not bad, but... deyholla (11605) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - SEP 19, 2014
Bottle. Pours a hazy a orangish amber with a tan head that dissipates completely. Aroma has lots of sweet grains, caramel and toffee with underlying raisin and bourbon. Flavor has lots of sweet grains up front with bourbon, raisin towards the finish. jeffc666 (1984) - Fairfax, Virginia, USA - JUN 10, 2010
Hazy brown-orange, boozy oak-bourbon aroma. Flavor is oaky-vanilla, sweet some citrus. Aroma is boozier than the flavor, though it does taste a bit like it is from a Kentucky a distillery. Medium bodied, not too thick or sticky. bu11zeye (13029) - Frisco (Dallas), Texas, USA - OCT 27, 2010
(22oz bottle, courtesy of thirdeye11) Pours a clear amber body with a small off-white head. Aroma of bourbon, caramel, cherry, orange, and vanilla. Flavor of bourbon, caramel, oak, toffee, and cherry. arone12 (929) - Maryland, USA - JAN 15, 2011
Pours a very dark color with a thin head. Smells of bourbon and some sort of spice. Similar in taste to a octoberfest. Does not taste much like a barleywine but still good.
