The main aroma is alcohol. The taste is malty with some oxidised flavours. There is definite bourbon flavour at the end that I like.

Aroma is all bourbon notes: vanilla, creme egg, oak and slight hazelnut. Pours deep red/brown with a small foamy lace. Taste is big with lots of bourbon notes, mostly oak and vanilla with just a hint of root beer. Strong booze feel but the taste compliments. Pretty solid.

It’s time! Well, it looks just like a barley wine. That’s a good sign. There’s a slight release from opacity, with a dark amber colored body and an off-white head. The aroma is not what you’d normally expect form a barley wine, though. It seems very much of dark caramel malts in the aroma – so much so that it almost smells like tobacco. The flavor is somewhat syrupy, thick, and herbal. Wow, it’s unique. It feels like an imperial IPA in the mouth, but smooth and light from the oak aging. It finishes much stronger than an imperial IPA, though, high in alcohol, slightly malty, and with a definite hop presence that’s well-infused with that alcohol. I love it. The bourbon is gentle, but defines much of the beer’s character. Why do I want to watch TrueBlood?

Poured a clear dark chestnut orange (like a strong iced tea). There was a thin light beige head that dropped to just a film rather quickly. The aroma was primarily bourbon along with vanilla and dark fruits. The beer had a nice silky thicker texture and a nice bourbon flavor right up front along with the alcohol warmth. There is a nice sweetness of raisins, brown sugar and molasses to balance the alcohol flavor. The overall flavor mellows well into the finish with just a light alcohol bite and a big alcohol warmth. This was great for a cold snowy winter night.

Bomber pours a hazy burnt orange with a think brown head. Aromas of bourbon oak and some bread and a bit of yeast. Flavor is semi sweet with a boozy oaky flavor. Body is medium to full with a good aged oak finish

Bottle pours a clear reddish-brown with brief bubbly white head. Aroma sweet malts with faint oak and a hint of sourness. Taste sweet caramel/toffee malts with slight bourbon and vanilla. Oaky finish. Palate full with alcohol burn, could be just a little thicker but did not detract. Alcohol evident.

This is not particularly complex but does a nice job - straightforward barleywine with a nice proportion of bourbon and quite a bit of oak.

Bottle from 2012. Pours clear burnt umber, small tan head, dissipates quickly, some lacing. Aroma is vanilla, toffee, bourbon, cherry, caramel. Flavor is full sweet, light bitter, vanilla, oak, ash, dark sugars, bourbon. Medium body, light astringency. Solid beer here.

Sampled on tap at Max’s in Baltimore. Pours a translucent, slightly viscous copper amber with a little cloudy white head. Aroma is butterscotch, sweet candy, a little woody. Flavor is more butterscotch, wood, caramel, a little medicinal. The wood came through a lot more here than in the Cab barrel. Full bodied, sweet, salty.

22 oz bottle from State Line. Poured a muddy brown with a smaller light beige frothy head. Aroma was very nice with lots of Bourbon barrel, vanilla, roasted coconut, syrup, burnt caramel, toast. Surprisingly easy drinking with a medium syrupy body and soft to average carbonation with a medium duration aftertaste. Flavor was dominated by Bourbon and wood barrel with some caramel, pancake syrup and a touch of candle wax. Nicely done beer at a bargain basement price for a bourbon barrel aged beer.

bottle, thanks to thirdeye11, amber brown color with tan bubbles, woody malt vanilla aroma with a sweet woody bourbon, oak flavor
