2012 bottle pours deep mahogany amber, quick tan head that reduces to a cap. nose is mostly biscuit, toast, light oak, slight bourbon. taste follows this theme as the bourbon is more subtle... wish it had a little more. oak is very present. finish lingers and the abv makes me happy.

Dark brown with medium-small tan head. Aroma caramel/malt, bit of wood, dark fruits. Full body, some alcohol but pretty smooth anyway. Flavor sweet, brown sugar, some oak, dark fruit, vanilla. Warm off dry finish. Nice.

Picked up the last 2012 bottle sitting in a hidden corner of my favorite bottle shop this AM. After I chilled it I poured into a dimpled mug (dont judge me). The aroma has delightful vanilla sweet notes. Taste follows. Not a lot to disagree with here. Just some good barleywine. It took me a while to learn to appreciate an aged barleywine. Malts are not something I appreciated early in my craft beer experience. But this is delicious. Ill look for the next generations and stock up my cellar. An excellent aged brew.

Keg @ Sedona. Deep amber with a tight off-white head. The nose is strong woody bourbon. Caramel, vanilla. Moderately hot and spicy flavors. Roasted nuts, toffee. Red apple skin. Hot finish. Full body, soft carbonation. Pretty solid.

On tap. Hazy deep red with a small off-white head. Aroma and flavor of bourbon, fig, vanilla, oak, and caramel. Finish is warming and sweet. Low carbonation.

2012 22oz bottle in a tulip. Pours dark brown with a lacy, beige head. Aroma of light oak and bourbon and vanilla, caramel and toffee malts, light grains and dough, and some alcohol. Flavor the same. Average to smoother texture. A decent barley wine, but a little hot and not that balanced.

Lubiere (13796) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - NOV 18, 2016
A reddish copper barleywine with a thin off white head. In aroma, sweet caramel malt with light vinous notes, light bourbon barrel notes, woody notes, alcohol warmth, very nice and smooth. In mouth, a nice sweet caramel malt with vinous notes, loads of treacle, light butterscotch, resinous hops, light nutty notes, alcohol warmth, light bourbon vanilla, very nice. Bottle from Pushkinwow at GRMs tasting.

Bottle: Poured a clear light copper color ale with a small foamy head with limited retention. Aroma of grainy malt with some bourbon notes and vanilla is pleasant enough. Taste is a nice mix between some woody notes with vanilla and bourbon and some grainy and caramelized malt notes. Body is a bit thin with good carbonation and some warming alcohol notes. Quite pleasant barleywine and very little oxidation for a 2011 vintage tasted in 2016.

sloth (2896) - Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA - MAY 15, 2010
Medium sized offwhite head with fair retention and some skinny lace. Seriously murky brown color. Nose is soft with whisky notes, a little cherry and vanilla, a little grainy, dusty. Med/full body, soft carbonation, lightly oily. Whisky flavors up front but not overpowering though they do dominate the BW aspect of this beer. A bit fruity with some sweet malts coming through, notes of wood, vanilla, caramel malts and pleasent earthyness. Notes of roast and maybe some chocolate too. Lightly sweet whisky finish. Bourbon is dominant but not overly so. Tastey and entertaining. May age well. Bomber procured @statelineliquors. Decent quaff.

CaptainCougar (7133) - Columbia, Maryland, USA - JUN 4, 2010
Pours a transparent deep amber copper with a spotty-lacing off-white head. Has a sweet dark caramely nose with some vanilla bourbon notes and some piny hops. Starts with pretty good sweet sticky fullness with caramel overtones and some warming astringent bitterness before the finish. Could use a little more balance, but the bourbon aging still enhances the base beer.
