Tap - pours dark brown red with small head, diminishing. Aromas of sweet oak, vanilla, dark berry notes. Taste of dried fruit, more red berry and sweet oak, vanilla, maple syrup. Palate is alive and finishes long. Good brew. obguthr (6355) - Staunton, Virginia, USA - FEB 3, 2013
Boozy walnut nose, similar to rum balls my Dad used to make. Cola brown, thin yellow head. Date flavor, lesser walnut and cherry notes. Yeah, it’s fruitcake in a glass. Tart and way too hot. DocLock (10683) - Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 24, 2013
Bomber from Capone’s. Pours turbid chocolate fudge color with minimal off-white head (very minimal). Nose is yeasty oaky malt, figgy fruit, cognac, red wine grapes. Tastes rich, very oahy and bourbony, with notes of maple, mild figgy and pruney fruit, earthiness, cognac, and an overall flavor that comes across more like a fine cognac than a beer, albeit with more oak, woody, and malty notes. This one is very good, and demolishes the beer/spirit boundary. b3shine (8873) - Indiana, USA - JAN 24, 2013
Bomber to snifter. Looks good; a semi-transparent caramel with thin off-white lacing. Smells solid; sweet and oaky with cabernet notes. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. Solid beer. hopdog (12510) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 18, 2013
22oz bottle. Poured a brown color with a small sized off white head. Aromas of toast, wood, nutty, vanilla, lighter vinous, and caramel. Tastes of wood, stronger red wine, vanilla, caramel, and dark fruits. The cabernet on the softer side with a medium alcohol finish.

2010 22 oz. bottle via trade with DrSilverworm - Pours a slightly hazy brown color with a 1/2 finger thick light tan head. Very light lacing. Light carbonation. Aroma and flavor is toasted malt, esters, and light wood. The alcohol is fairly noticeable in the finish, yet it’s somewhat smooth. Medium to full body. A good beer. On draft at Spacebar, Falls Church. Pours almost black with a slight off white head. Nice aroma with red wine, vanilla and oak carrying through to the finish. Hints of dark red cherries and raisins. Smooth but boozy finish. Nice. DrSilverworm (9671) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - JAN 9, 2013
22oz bottle, 2010 vintage. Hazy red / brown color. Good khaki head, kinda bubbly. Good dark fruit and red grape flavor. Great earthy hop. Good lace. Great texture and mouthfeel. Bigger body, good smooth and creamy texture, light carbonation. Good grape, earthy hop and light malty aftertaste. Hint of chocolate in there, some light dark fruit. Taste is bitter, light sweet. Alcohol is very well blended. Very tasty stuff, and yet very drinkable, too. Age must have worked very well for this. Lots of particles visible in the 2nd pour. Great stuff. This is one I was glad to have all to myself. Cybercat (5834) - Georgia, USA - DEC 21, 2012
Comes out of the tap an opaque chocolate-brown with a fairly thick light tan head. Malty aroma has subtle notes of chocolate and cinnamon. Flavor has a strong, fruity alcohol bite that still lets through malty, chocolate and toffee notes. It is somewhat sweet, but not overly so. Texture is quite thick, almost syrupy, with subtle but persistent fizz. Drink with care, lest you end up "below decks"! ;) bluejacket74 (1992) - Reynoldsburg, Ohio, USA - DEC 9, 2012
22 ounce bottle, 2011 vintage. Served in a snifter, the beer pours a murky reddish/brown color with about an inch tan head. Head retention is good, and there’s a small amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like red wine, dark fruit, molasses, caramel, brown sugar and some wood. It tastes like red wine/grapes, dark fruit (figs, raisins, plums), molasses, caramel, toffee, and a little bit of chocolate. I thought it tasted better and better the longer I drank it. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s syrupy and slick with moderate carbonation. I think this is a good overall brew, and it’s better than the regular Below Decks (I just had a bottle of it before I drank this one). The cabernet barrel aging works well with this brew and makes it better. Definitely worth a try if you come across it.
