Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of Elwood. Pours a cloudy opaque reddish amber with a small white head. Sweet and fruity nose, a woody edge to it. Rich body, sweet caramel wit quite an oxidized woody edge to it. Licorice accents. Warming alcohol feel. I believe this one has peaked. 270812 jtclockwork (17264) - , New Jersey, USA - MAY 17, 2010
UPDATED: MAY 23, 2010 Bottle at Pilsner Pete’s RBSG. Pours a dark swampy soda brown. Nose is sweet caramel and wood. Taste is citrus, cane sugar, wood and slight vinous undertones. brokensail (16645) - Dublin, California, USA - NOV 22, 2010
A: The pour is a dark amber color with a thin layer of khaki colored head.
S: A very wine forward nose. Lots of red fruits, vinous notes, and plenty of oak (sort of tannic). There is a mild alcohol presence and a decent amount of chocolatey oxidation.
T: Sweet caramel and chocolate (oxidation) start things of. The wood and wine provide a spicy, peppery, note and some sweet red fruit. The alcohol comes through a bit strong at moments, but for the most part it’s mellow.
M: The body is medium with a low to medium level of carbonation. Overall, a pretty smooth mouthfeel.
D: The alcohol can be slightly on the harsh side at times, but overall it’s pretty enjoyable. I’m not usually the biggest fan of non-sour wine barrel aged beers, but this was good. bhensonb (15747) - Woodland, California, USA - APR 6, 2013
Bomber from beachbum25. Pours very dark ruddy copper with a beige smear. Aroma is sort of brown sugar mixed with dark red berry. Full bodied. Flavor is very red berry, then it develops treacle, gets a little oak astringency, but it’s really sugar/treacle/red berry. Finishes on the sweet side, but very, very tasty. Thanks Jim! Bottle.Poured hazy brown color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate caramel malt, dark fruit and tanic grape aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium dark fruit sweet flavor with a medium complex sweet finish of moderate duration. This is a standout beer.
